I'm thinkin of gettin a second cam as a spare n im on the fence about it as i'm a hobbist.

Jst wonderin wat u guys think n wat u guys have. Do share pls.

Just my thoughts..

1 with a crop factor for tele shots?
1 FF cam for daily shoot?

Regards

I can't see myself needing a spare per se, unless I shoot events for a profession.

But that is not taking into account, the other toy cameras i have, about 3....

S5pro (Main)
D70 - base plate a little damaged i feel wrong to sell it off.
FE 2 - Its not a dslr but ya haha (my latest edition)

If you're a casual photographer, then there's probably no need for a spare. Pros, on the other hand, need a spare of almost everything. (They can't afford equipment failure)

Anyway, I have my Nikon D70 as my mainstay, and a Nikon F80 film SLR for fun.

DSLR? Only one. :dunno:

You friend must be rich... ;p

If you are a hobbyist, there is really no need for a backup camera. So, why the conflicting statement when you said:
but then again for ppl who r hobbist, have 2 also for wat? y need a spare?
but then is thinking of getting a second cam as a spare. Isn't a backup camera a spare?

I am confused...

Oh sorry la i mean i'm thinkin of gettin a spare cos i'm goin into shootin events and weddings. Done quite a few already n i'm gettin lots of referrals. But im on the fence cos i'm not a pro. tho i do shoot for money.

With this information I'd say the definite answer is yes.

Most, if not all wedding photographers have and should have the responsibility to carry along to work at least 2 D-SLRs. Doesn't matter whether it's for different lenses, as spare or both.

Else, you could always rent a 2nd camera when you need one. Infact you could own 2 cameras and rent a 3rd body if you want to play primes for weddings. Nothing extreme these days.

If you shoot for money, you need another body, especially for weddings. Different lenses on each body. Works really well.

2

one Sony a700 with a few Minolta lenses

one Nikon D40 for travel and my wife

1 DSLR, 2 PnS

DSLR:
Sony A330 with 3 Sony Lens and 2 Old Minolta Lens

PnS:
Canon Powershot S45 (Old trusty cam that give good IQ)
Pentax Optio M40 (The most rubbish PnS i ever use, poor ISO performance, don't ever use it indoor, it does not work properly, my old School S45 give better IQ)

a 5d2, a d80, a d60 and a few old film bodies. but only use the 5d2 and d80
