Hi! Can anyone help me?
I was trying on custom white balance with the grey card bought recently. Read from my 7D's manual on pg. 71, it says 'Look through the viewfinder and the area within the dotted line should cover a solid-white object'...Manually focus..blah..blah..blah! My question is, I don't see any dotted line? should I just cover maybe 90% of the viewfinder so as I can use the remaining area outside for manual focusing?

For setting white balance, you do not need to be in focus. The main issue it to fill the whole scene with your grey card. Depending on focal length, you might need to hold it really close, and at such distances, not all lenses can focus.

OIC thanks for your help..

Maybe the dotted line is in an image in the manual, showing the view through the viewfinder? Similar to highlighting the metering areas for the different metering types.
