Currently equiped with a 400D and was thinking to get a Fish eye len. Asked one of our local shop and was told that my 400D can't use the len because it is not a full frame body. Anyone can further explain why is it so?

can use just that you will take in the crop factor then it will not be tt wide anymore.
Which lens were you inquiring about?

Tamron has a 10-17mm FE right...tt one will work better i guess..

but wadeva it is, FF lens should still work for yours just that its not tt attractive to have a not so wide FE...defeats the purpose...

It is a lens not len

Tokina...Not Tamron. And yes, it's probably the best FE for crop bodies.

:bsmilie: It gets very irritating after a while eh? Maybe CS can have some auto correct thingie to convert LEN to LENS everytime it is typed here?

Good idea mate :bsmilie:

that local shop doesn't know its stuff

there are full frame fisheyes, the relatively cheaper (and poorer quality) chapalang brands one tend to be for full frame, e.g. zenitar.

these cannot be used on your 400d, the fisheye effect will become half baked.

but there are cropped frame fisheyes also, example being pentax 10-17 (or tokina 10-17 equivalent). the sigma 10mm f/2.8 also is a cropped frame fisheye.

I wonder if you use FF circular fisheye lens on crop cam, does it turn out to be digonal fisheye?

Yes. The Peleng 8mm is an example. It's almost a diagonal FE when mounted on a crop camera. You still see some black corners.

Thanks for the replies people. Cheers.

I thought fish eye len was a guy with one bulging eyeball. Poor Len!

Tokina 10-17 FE is fun & value for money! Sigma is much more expensive.
