Hi, I just got myself a Digi-Cabi DHC-60 dry cabinet a few days ago and it's my first time using a dry cab. I just have a few questions on the operation of this DHC series and would like to check if it is functioning properly.

After a few days of operation, here are my observations:

1) I initially set the RH% to maintain 45%. At this time, the LCD blue light is on and both the red and green LED light inside the cab is on too.

2) At 43%, the blue LCD light turned off. The green LED light was turned off too. Now, only the red LED light is lit.

3) From 43% reading, the RH% is slowly going up again. After 10 mins, the RH reading went up to 47% and at this time, the blue LCD and the green LED light turned on again. Red LED is still on.

4) The RH reading now slowly goes down again. It took around 20-30 minutes for the RH reading to go down from 47% to 43% before the blue LCD and green LED are turned off again.

5) Numbers (3) and (4) now is a repeated cycle.

So basically, my questions are:

a) Based on my observations, is my dry cabinet functioning properly?

b) After the green LED and blue LCD lights are turned off at 43%, is it normal for the RH to go up to 47% in just 10 minutes?

Thanks in advance! :)

I admire your patience and your ability to sit and stare at the dry cab for such a long time.

Yes, your dry cab sounds like it is working properly. And yes, it can go up by that little small % in 10 minutes, because singapore is very humid. If you have aircon in the room, turn it on and see if the RH go up at the same rate.

where do u place ur dry cabinet....

it's advisable to place it in a nice shady spot (away fr direct sunlight) in the house. this is becuse fluctuations in temp will affect RH

I don't have a digibaci but got my AIPO (also digital hygrometer) a couple months back.
I place it on a table in my dining room, it's is constantly in the shadows away from direct sunlight. my AIPO keeps within 45% -46% throughout the day. (it's next to my PC so i can check on the RH every now n then while on my com) usually it's stays pretty constant for a long while before going up to 46% n remains constant again. does not fluctuate so much as what u described

I don't really stare at it for a long time. haha! The blue LCD light is my signal to check the time because it is quite a strong light. So, you'll really notice it turning off or on while watching tv especially when the room is dark. :)

I think the green LED light inside the cabinet tells you if the humidifier is on or off. When the desired RH% is achieved, it will auto turn off. However, I'm just surprised that that it only takes 10 minutes to maintain the RH% inside the cabinet when the humidifier is turned off. Or am I expecting too much? I noticed the same case even when the aircon in the room is turned on.

I see. For your AIPO dry cab, is the humidifier always turned off? Or does it also turn off automatically when 45% is achieved and then maintains this reading for a long time?

Humidity in still cabinet will take a long time (weeks) to stablize if full loaded with immediate damp equipments. Unless there is a fan inside to circulate the air continuously.

If the cabinet is not proper sealed, the humidity will not stablized resulting in power wastage.

If one is concern, get another digital hygrometer and put it at the lower chamber, wait for few days. If the RH difference is great, meaning something wrong.

the humidifier will turn off when the set RH% is reached n turn on again when RH increase. so far never see the RH drop below what i set...

i think for u maybe cos u put in air con room that's why the RH fluctuates more... but then i think it's not a problem lah as long as the RH stays within +/- 3%, unless the led lights are irritating u maybe put a cloth/curtain over the glass door

OK,here is a trick for those who is so impatient with your still dry cabinet and really want to get the equilibrium as fast as possible.

Walk into a 2 dollar shop and get those cheap handheld battery operated fan with soft blades. Insert your near empty rechargeable battery (see note below) and let the fan run inside the cabinet till it flats. You should get the air and items dry much faster. ;)

Use velcro or something that can keep the fan standing.

* You will need to an empty set of rechargeable batteries that has just been charged for 10min (I am just estimating without burning the motor... u figure out). Reason being, if you run the toy fan for too long, it will get hot and give out a motor smell. Then your whole box will smell like burnt motor. The smell is not permanent and will disappear after some airing. But avoid is better.

For my old version Digi-Cabi DHC series:

LCD blue display light is always "ON", I think new version LCD blue display will turned off due to f/b from customer (irritating as when ALL other lightings are "OFF" at night). I think the Red LED is the power indicator, always"ON" but old version don't have this.

The green LED light that is inside the dry cabinet will be "ON" or "OFF" to show the control humidifier unit is working (de-humidify, i.e. "ON") .... when the desired RH%(from high to lower RH%) is achieved, the control humidifer unit will stop (i.e. green LED light becomes turn off).
However, for the my unit ("professional" DHC series) the RH only fluctuates +/-1%RH from the set RH% value if the cabinet is proper sealed with rubber glass door is proper closed and it is constantly in the shadows away from direct sunlight. Note, any fluctuations in temp will affect the RH%.

Dun mind I pose 1 question to DHC model users .... anyone put it in their room? If yes, is there noise ... so much that it'll disturb light sleepers? Thanks :)

For your dry cabinet, when it fluctuates +1% does the dehumidifier turn ON at once (green light on)? Around how long is the dehumidier turned off before the RH goes up and turns on the dehumidifier again?

For my case, no noise whatsoever. It's just the light that might be disturbing for other users. :)

:)

For my dry cabinet, the green LED will show "OFF" starting from it fluctuates from below set RH% to just above set RH%(like +1 to +2RH%), i.e. control dehumidifier unit is at the OFF state function. When it reaches slightly above the set value by certain amount (like +1 to +2RH%), the control dehumidifier unit will be set "ON" thus meaning it's trying to bring down the RH and during this process the green LED is "ON".

Estimate only: 13min green LED "ON" and 11min green LED "OFF".

Thanks for the info. So it seems my dry cab is working properly. :)

No high pitch sounds? ;)

Nope. :)

Likely yes for lower quality products or as it ages, just that most city adults cannot hear as the surrounding is numbed with noise pollution.

Even those car air ionizer emits a eeeeeee sound but drivers cannot hear it.

OK, scrap the toy fan as the motor generate too much heat and smell. Go for brushless fan, low noise and runs cool without the smell.

Go to Sim Lim Tower (not square) and there are tons of electronic component to browse. I bought a 5-volt fan (PC/CPU fans are all 12V btw), a metal mesh (secure with cable tie) and a back cover with filter (superglued to air inlet side of fan). You can opt for 2 metal mesh cover instead if you do not want the filter. Both side must be covered to prevent accidental cuts.

1x 4AA battery holder (with switch) and insulation tape. 4x rechargeable batteries (avoid normal battery). The fan should run for 2+ hours and hopefully dry your newly placed moist equipment within the dehumdifer box/cabinet quickly.

Errrr. I still cannot figure out what is that yellow wire for??

admire your creativity!

The -5D introduced the concept of higher operating weights and increased payload when operating in a "Transport" role (firm, smooth runways, 2.5g maneuver load factor, restricted flap settings, 10 ft/second limit rate of descent at landing touchdown) in addition to the "Assault" role capabilities of the earlier versions.
