Just a general question on how you guys organize your photo.

And also do you keep your raw fileS?

Tried photoshooting with raw file + image however realise I have too many pics to pp and so hard to organise all the pics..!

Personally I'm using iPhoto to organise my albums and PP those which are keepers. Other than that, they're kept in a neat order in my iPhoto.

I will never delete the RAW files that I "develop".

Out of every shoot, I will only "keep" 5-10 for processing. If you have more than that, you need to be more selective in what you would present.

For sony at least, the supplied image viewing/sorting software is pretty good, and it can sort photos by faces too.

Have a look at tools for image organization. Adobe Lightroom offers the entire workflow from RAW file over processing till output into target media: print, slideshow, online publishing. But still: be selective.

I store them in folders by date and labels behind the dates. I keep all the RAW files just in case. The other day I just came across another RAW file taken 2 months ago, processed it and it turn out to be a very nice picture.

I have a 500GB HDD by the way, and several portable HDD that I use for backup.

BTW I process about 1 in 5 images. But that is because I like to snap more to make sure I get a couple of good shots to choose from, just in case.

yea,,i was gg through my photos yesterday .. and i got like 30000 photos since my consumers day ... and i find it really untidy.

Really best to clean those up. I usually follow a triage model:

1. After shooting, I'll immediately sort photos into "delete/keep/maybe".
2. After 2 weeks, I take another look at my "keep/maybe" pics to see if they still have the same "oooh, this is nice" effect on me. If not, delete.
3. Then I go over it one more time, deleting pics that look almost identical to other pics (keeping the best of the set of course).

I'm using iPhoto to archive and organise my photos.

iphoto for mac only rite..

Do you guys use external portable HDD to store your image? Which HDD that you recommend? I'm currently looking for one HDD to store all my images.

A wise way is to convert all your RAW into DNG format if you're using Photoshop most of the time. Who knows ten years down the road, you might not be able to open up your eixting RAW in Photoshop anymore. Just go to adobe.com to get the free DNG convertor.

i am currently using maxtor one touch four plus... kinda good it do auto bacfk up for me every week!

always leave original un-touch

Do you mean you will save the processed RAW as a separate file while the original remains? That would take up lots of disk space. We can always undo a processed RAW to the original thus I see no benefit to save as two separate files. BTW, I use Capture NX2.

not all images I shot in RAW.
if it is RAW after basic processing, I save a tiff file for further photoshop work.

if it is a jpg, just save a tiff file for working copy.

the original is always there, I can go back to rework from the original if I need to.
