Either get a proper air-conditioner or go for the cheaper alternative - hang a bag of ice in front of your fan. ;-))

the best air cooler is your mind. i have trained to level eight. I can polish my car in my work attire without sweating much in the sun.

wow..
what do you mean by level eight? got such levels on that things?

Dun bother with an air cooler. Air coolers are more useful in other countries with cooler weather and lower humidity. Coolers have lower energy consumption than air cons but coolers depend on water evaporation to bring down down room temperature. Evaporation rate is faster in lower humidity. The best temperature reduction is maybe 4 degrees celsius.

In our hot and humid climate, air coolers do not function well alone. They are used together with air conditioner to bring temperatures lower. So if you need to cool your room, just go and get an air con.

NO NEED!

Because I am cool.

~sign~ what to do .......haiiii.....

get a portable air con instead. :p

Isn't air cooler referring to the type with compressor (just like air con)?

The difference is, a proper air con unit will bring heat out of the room, while the air cooler transfer the heat from the front to the back.. The one with the fan blowing and spraying water also called air cooler..? hmm..

Actually there's some truth here.. I use to sweat loads because I loathe the weather here.. step out of the door only and I bead sweat.. during the army, I hated being in uniform all day.. but slowly come to terms with the weather.. slowly but surely, I can enjoy a fresh hot coffee under the blazing hot sun without a drip on my head..

in fact, I realise when "stressed" or anxious in the air con, I can sweat.. so like what my army commanders always drill into our heads "It's all in the mind!"

Air cooler is useless in Singapore. In fact it makes you feel "sticky" and make the rooms more humid if you close the doors.. I tried before and just ended up installing an air con..

i also prefer to install air con, but its only rent unit, so need to think twice about it.

Best Denki has several portable aircon units. You can check them out there. :)

For those who know where I am coming from will believe it is all in the mind.

I can do with or without ac even when driving with all windows wound up and air blower shut totally under the sun for say 20min.

If i do polish my car under the sun in between waiting time, i think of the sun as the dryer. If i do perspire, it will all be evaporated pretty quickly.

And yes, when anxious, one perspire much more.

But when i take on physically demanding jobs, i will perspire naturally as it helps me reduce heat in my higher than normal body temperature.

I bought 2 different units of air cooler before. Toyomi brand.
Seriously it sucks. Despite putting in cold water with ice cubes, the room still doesn't get cooled at all.
Don't waste your money on such things and the worst thing is it spoilt within 1.5month because there is a internal curtain rotating.
I ever tried to put all ice inside, in the end it doesn't cool as well. instead my whole floor was wet from the condensation.

Dunno, but thank god u didnt spend $200 on a useless portable air cooler. :)

I went around during those shopping ctr exhibition and see the aircon exhibit, aircooler either has no tick or only 1 tick. That means they are not efficient in terms of electricity use, not sure how about their cooling capability

Just read today's today newspaper - Carrefour have portable aircon for sale at $399. :bsmilie:
