Well, that's not exactly what he said.:bsmilie: But we all know KRW for his strong opinions and words.

Actually, KRW put it the other way round - Dell hates his customers. In other words, their customer service sucks big time.

Now here in SG, anyone has got any bad experience with Dell?

I used to dislike Dell because of its inflexible logistic system. I needed a mounting bracket costing $10. Asked my tech support call them for parts + delivery. Being based in Penang, they charged me $40 for UPS. The freight cost less than RM$10 but they insisted that they must use UPS as their default courier. Waited three weeks for the whole process. In the end, the wrong part came! How nice right? So, I told my tech support to use velcro tape and plaster the HDD to the side of the casing. I was very happy in the end.

Dell used to have proprietary mounting system and so they make sure you cant get it from sim lim square other than a screw for the casing. Hated Dell there and then. The support system simply is bad as they dont believe in face to face customer service. Everything was by the phone and credit card.

Now, I am not sure how they work. I suppose they had improved. But I wont buy another Dell. My tech support used to call them tiu (in cantonese).

Packard bell use to be another horrid brand in the 90s. It was nicked named, packed from hell.

Dell Penang SUCKS.

However, logistic thing, if they has contracted UPS, well, they have contracted UPS. They really do not have a choice.

If you have to oder a $10 item, it is a known fact that shipping and handling will really bite, and that is why all the MO that goes on around here when ordering from oversea.

Now, sending you the wrong part, well that is a problem.

I have been using Dell machine from corporate purchase for a long time, but never really made any personal purchases until very recently. I bought a Dell XPS 435T (9000) Desktop and I purchase directly from Dell, it has been very good service one after another... (I would have given excellent grade if not for their outsourced delivery team which did not keep to the appointed timing making me wait extra).

Dell's prices are damn good value for money and I am loving it for it's price, quality finishes and value. I reported to Dell that one of their packaged items had some smudges and guess what? they sent me a new one within days and I don't even have to return the old item, heck it works just that it has some smudges, so far I can only say I have had good first buying experience with Dell.

I am a happy Dell customer.

I remember calling up DELL for a defective CDROM of my notebook in the morning somewhere around 2003.
The customer service was so ressponsive and I got a replacement in the afternoon of the same day. Way to go DELL

Thats true. honestly, I dont mind premium freight service if it can be expressed. But to wait 3 weeks for a big box with two tiny pieces of metal is simply horrible and a waste of money.

In the usa, contracted courier do not cost so much. This is because they have volume discount and the merchants pass the discounts to consumers direct. But for Dell, it was a rip off. I wont mind even if they did not buy insurance for the HDD mounting bracket. these brackets probably cost Dell less than RM$1, but I was billed $50 plus tax.

They are probably out of the parts you wanted. Knowing Dell's inventory management philosophy, they do not keep much inventory on hand. Your parts probably came from China to Penang, and then to you.

Anyway, I am done with Dell. Never again. Their desktops were very good and laptop above averaged. The key work is "was".

I have found, Dell Penang is hopeless while Dell Austin is much better. My parents have a Dell desk top and a Dell laptop, both runing rather trouble free for last 18 months. They are not doing business with Dell Penang, bless them. What is worst about Dell in Singapore is we have to deal with Dell's tech and customer support out of that country west of Singapore. THAT IS HOPELESS!
