i think we should make the link to price guide as a sticky in all BUY/SELL sub-forums. Apparantly, some people have no concept of a "resale" and no idea whatsoever of depreciation. Without a reference to the price guide, few naive buyers might be conned or rather befooled to buy a used product at the price of brand new one.

IMHO, a used product is a used one...no matter how well kept or no matter if just used for a month. Anything less than the difference of 20% from the "current market" price - not the price at which the owner bought the lens, does not warrant a buy.

This fellew CSer is selling a lens which you might get at the same price in the brand new condition from the shop itself. Or maybe, perhaps 10 20 more, but then its the price you pay for peace of mind.

Equipment Model: AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
Price (S$): $370 BNP$360

From price guide:-
AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
$380 w/GST (MS, Mar09 - gimj)
$350 (TK, Mar09 - lh09DX)
$320 w/GST (AP-F, May09 - ZerocoolAstra)

Thanks a lot to the "Price Guide" and we can never be thankful enough to people who maintain them.

it is a free market.

if you can't bother to do your homework, be chopped happily.

you go to the better shops, sometimes also can chop. better to learn how not to get chopped, then to encourage the concept of a nanny forum.

Retail shops, street shops, B&S, common factor - all sellers ought to get the most, all buyers ought to spend the least. One's luck is another bad luck sometimes so do your homework and don't complain as it's a free market. Hence, no one is taking responsibility.

Bottomline, not happy with price, don't buy la... or find elsewhere. You're not paid to buy anyway... so if the seller don't get to sell, it's his bad luck and perhaps your good luck if you find it cheaper elsewhere.

more than agreed! it is a free market and if u do ur homework beforehand, u have the right to buy/not to buy..

at the end of the day, no one is pointing a gun at u..

the seller can continue to post and post and post.. and if we are sensible enough about the prices, no one will buy from him..

Yea, honestly, it's hard to have sympathy for people who kenna chopped, since all the resources to prevent such a thing from happening are readily available to them!

Of course, blatant cheating (i.e - selling spoilt/defective items without stating) is a ttly different matter :sticktong

But I'm more interested in appreciation rate leh. I wanna know how much my old, out-of-production lenses go for. (Not much actually) ;p

ha ha..i guess what you are talking is not about a "resale" but rather a "vintage sale"..for collector's items..

I dont quite agree, there are people who might get conned if they do not have the correct information - and not all people can search efficiently...and what if, the post they are searching gives them the wrong price..ah

did you know the BnS pages are crawled and also updated on website called "www.phing.com", an example below.
http://www.phing.com/listing/215747-WTSell-Others-Dry-Cabinet-Akarui-Digi-E26D

we should have full sympathies, if nothing else, with people who get conned ...that was the reason i recommended if we can add a sticky pointing to the price guide section

i saw tat 35 f/1.8 also n i was thinkin "heck,get new 1 better"...

LoL...

but i think the buyer needs to do his homework also.
everything is here nicely.
there's a delicated group just for price list...
if the buyer don't bother, then no1 can help him/her

I got my fair share of being chopped myself. A sticky definitely helps a little but there are some considerations:

1. So many subforums in the BnS section. This will mean a lot of stickies. Who will maintain?

2. Price lists need to be maintained. Some are renewed every year. Like that how ar? Who will maintain?

3. Prices fluctuate. Price guide prices can be abused.

4. Most of the people looking at BnS will either, not look at prices guides at all (uninformed), those that check prices in price guides, already know how to get to the price guides. I bookmark some that are interesting to me. So why even bother putting in stickies?

5. People who ask for an arm and a leg, will continue to do so, even if the price guides are stickied there.

So, in the end, what the TS is asking will be extra work for no justifiable return. So TS, are you willing to do all the maintenance work? If not updated fast enough hor, people will complain about you also u know?

Damn I am starting to type like that new Miss World singapore.. Boomz

Do note that some of the prices in the price guides are simply guides only and most of the people won't get the same price from the shop. Secondly, these prices are quite outdated as some prices mentioned are before the price hike announced by Canon / Nikon etc. However, the buyer should definitely do his homework and also note that "Caveat Emptor" applies as well ;)

i've posted a similar thread before, i've also posted the link to the seller's post, and you know what i got?.... some people accused me of sabo-ing the seller's thread... now, to those peolple... why can't you say the same thing now... it just meant that i am not the only one with this kind of sentiment when it comes to overpricing seller's... http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=567322&highlight=wurdelak i do agree, a price guide sticky in the B & S section would be very helpful!

And take up bandwidth/advertisement space or litter all over the front page..

What does the consumer wants? reasonable deals for them to check it out or "Used item at New item prices" threads all over the place..

the seller can continue to post and post and post..

Actually, it is not nice to link to other people's post and say their price is high if you are not even going to buy from them. If they want to sell high high, let them sell lor. If some one is dumb enough to buy at that ridiculous price, let them buy lor.

Seriously, why even bother.

This applies to TS also. Not nice to put the link here la. We all know the asking prices are ridiculous. No need to put it out here.

Seriously, why even bother.
but isnt this what this forum is all about ... spread awareness - share knowledge, learn and let learn

before being a member i was not knowing even 1/10th about what i know now - not just about the photography, but everything in general.

i would feel very deeply for people who, unlike me, might not have had an oppurtunity to spend time and read lot of things and grow in knowledge about CS.

i think we could do whatever we can recommend so as to help any new person as we can. And even then we are not controlling anything, its a free market and anyone is open to quote/offer/bid any price:devil:

ps:i just loved this icon :complain:

Hi TS, It isn't much of a hassle to open another tab and compare. The reason why it is accumulated in a section is because it will be easier to compare prices. Else we would have placed the price guides in each of our brand sections. Anyway, what about having a BNS price guide. but that's not required!!! BECAUSE, WE HAVE TO DO OUR HOMEWORK!!!!! ;)

Another case of spoon-feeding?

Why is it so difficult to do your own research?

Prices in the 2nd hand market are dynamic and depend on many factors. They will need constant updating also, and after a while, it's going to be redundant. There are already price guides for RRP, so use your own judgement to determine how much a 2nd hand piece of equipment should cost, based on age, condition and rarity (whether in 1st or 2nd hand market).

Long time ago if this happen definitely some will post something on particular BS thread. Now no reply function seller can sell whatever price they want without people bother them, it good in some sense but bad on the other aspect.
I keep scratching my head when some people tried to sell lens to me $20 cheaper than what I can get off the shelf from my regular shops. If I bid 20%-30% lower some people call me low baller. It's catch 22 situation.
