count me in Sam(256mb)

personally, i find it a bit self-defeating to organise group outing for street photography

a huge group of people travelling together attracts attention, so you aren't going to get much other than countless stare photos. well, but if that's what you want....

This is an interesting gathering to do street photography together. Lending support and encouragement to each other.

As this is going to be done in Orchard Road invovling a big group of photographers with the primary aim of photographing people... If not done properly could become a public nuisance and create a bad name for photographers.

There are different methods of street photography and multiple schools of thought on this subject. Bruce Gilden for one enjoy walking the street with a camera and a flash and photographing people along the way (Shock approach). Other masters prefer to stay with a subject, make them comfortable and then photographing them (Comfort approach)... Most agree that street photography ideally should be done either in a small group or alone...

Just my thought on this subject....

Maybe sir(TS) can limit it to like 5 people? yea personally I like to shoot street shots but yup.
just a maybe thought. cheers. :D

I agree with 3pin. I had an outing to 2 other friends yesterday and it was pretty fruitful. Even with 3 person could be a crowd but we "split" off 5m - 10m away shooting different subjects and scale down the group. We had someone(security guard) checking on us especially when we congregate together to shoot a cat.

lol... the security guard probably thinking u are bullying the cat... ;p

Hi ,
Thanks for all of your interest.
The last I had, not everyone sticks with the group. So probably each person will stick to his/her own group.

Otherwise, can strike out on your own. No issues.
But if need help or anything, everyone's within reach. Or it there's any technical issues, we can check with one another.

At the end of the session, we can all gather, have a drink , check out what each other has gotten along the way, and have a great time. I am sure there's will be something interesting for each of us .=)

I have once meet a group of shooters around centrepoint resting...and looking for idea what to take next. While i pick up my cam to aim at a girl quietly, some of them from the group actually flash at her behind me. The girl was in shock and she turned around and run away. I felt at the moment; they hijacked my opportunities and they have intrude and was rude to the lady. My feeling was they act like buddy since they were in a big group.

My point is this behavior may result in public offended by photographers.

Of course, I appreciate people who organised such outing for exchange of ideas and make friends.

That must have shock the girl !

Well ..there are some technique whereby good street photographers employ.
... I am sure they are better now.
And I think that's the whole jest of the outing ...
I think we are all there to learn and most importantly , have fun albeit safely.
Your input would be most valuable if the scene is actually happening. =)

Street photography can b achieve as long we remain stealth most of the time. Use fast zoom lens for low light situation. 85mm or 70-200mm is the ideal lens recommended. Just my thoughts sharing.

If this wasn't a photography forums, I'd be very disturbed.

In any case, having many photographers together for a street shoot can help especially if their main purpose is to learn from each other and gain different perspectives (like "oh, you shot that building from that angle looks nicer!" or "what's your shutter/ISO settings ah?")

Ultimately, shooting as a group usually isn't as good for this, but if a debrief session or follow-up is intended then it can truly be educational I guess.

ha, that's why my cam has no flash and i don't like to use flash. the game in street photography natural and no flash if possible.
