I wanted to show the loyalty of the dog to its owner and its discomfort when a stranger was around (that would be me).

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
Taken late afternoon. The dog was a little restless, it kept moving around and refused to be still even when the owner asked her to sit.

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
I think the shallow DOF puts all the attention on the facial expression. It probably would be better if the dog was looking directly into the camera and to take it from a lower angle so I would be on the same level as the dog.

abit far fetch here, this shot does not even have a toe of the dog's owner to even have a link to that.

its kind of a bad shot.
1, your explanation doesn't work here, neither does the shot have a feel of that.
2, the shot is just plain shouting snapshot, at most a test of bokeh.
3, composition does not tell anything. You've tried to push saturation, but didn't try to salvage the white fur from blown out.

Unfortunately the grass in the foreground is also sharp. Kind of stealing the attending from the dog. I think I like to see more of the dog but you blur most of it.

Same feeling here. I think it is the bad angle of the photo taken caused it.

you wanted to convey 'loyalty' as what your title says. but you provided aboslutely no context of that in the composition. you have to be aware that the image should, without any explanation, portray your message to the viewer.

Hi, IMHO - the shot is overexposed - can be seen from the extreme brightness behind and yes, a little too sharp - lessen on the PS.
