Try getting a Raynox 250. Works quite well with the 50mm.

A close up filter will allow you to focus closer. As a rule the weaker the diopter the better the result.
The edges of the images tend to be quite soft. You'll need to stop down quite a bit.
Close up filter tend not to be flat field and will not render flat surfaces in focus across the entire field.
A true macro lens will be a flat field lens.

I use the Raynox DCR-250 with my 50mm f1.8.
Pretty satisfied with the results it can produce.

I'm still learning to get to his standard.
He's using the 50mm + Raynox combination too.

I's using a cheap close up filter for my Macro shots since I am only doing it for fun.
Don't forget that using a close up filter will affect the quality of your photos since its basically a cheaper glass in front of your lens.

My Sony sal 50mm lens has 49mm thread...
Must waste money to buy adaptor in this case...

Does yr 50mm comes with metal lens hood? U can clamp on the hood instead

I got mine from Lensmate online from USA, total cost plus shipping direct to s'pore was about SGD100.
Although buying online is cheaper, but if got problems with the items will be quite leh cheh.
Need to contact the company for refund or 1-to-1 exchange, then need to ship back the item.
Some buyers prefer to look and inspect at the item before buying.

I usually stack 2 pieces of Hoya +4 together. Here's an example of it with the addition of B+W MRC UV-Haze with bounced flash.
And by the way, a 52mm close up +4 is around $18. Price depends on magnification and filter size.

So you using your 50 f1.2 with 2 closeup filters together?
Btw, what is your focusing distance after stacking the 2 filters?
