Due to recent knee injury, i keep hearing and seeing this word from everyone and everywhere.....
Bros here who are taking Glutamine, i would like to know more about this wonder drug :dunno:

Think you meant Glucosamine for bones and joints.
Glutamine is totally different, more for body building. :)

Ya, i think it should be: Glucosamine

probably it's due to pronunciation from different people ....

Its beneficial effects are not clinically proven; clinical studies done so far have been conflicting... y'know some say it works some say it doesn't and all that blah blah.

Glucosamine is primarily derived from chitin from shellfish and crustaceans, but there are non-shellfish based derivatives as well.

If you are allergic to shellfish you probably would want to read the label before buying.

Glucosamine works by replenishing the calcium level in your joints. It works to repair worn out cartilage at the joints.

However, glucosamine shouldn't be taken any how. Too much of it will give you problems to your kidneys. Thus seek advice from a doctor and get the correct prescription.

GMAN

My knees "pop" less after taking glucosamine for a week. The trick is, take it with fish oil (omega-3) tablets.

Confirm Glucosamine, my friend always lompang me to buy half dozen of these when I travel to US  Confirm helps in his joins

Honestly, i do not believe in Glucosamine.

A healthy diet in natural food rich in calcium + a min of 20min sun exposure per day (for vitamin D), plus nutrients from fruits, milk will help build strong bones.

Calcium tablets (with Vit D) is good enough for those who are really into synthetic supplements.

Ok

1. Glucosamine is not a wonder drug. It does not replace/repair your joint cartilage. It has only been shown to reduce PAIN associated with arthritis. It will also not slow down arthritis.

2. Glucosamine has no effect on Calcium in the body. Vitamin D does.

3. Apparently Glucosamine + chondroitin sulfate is the preparation you should take. Glucosamine by itself is useless. (Related to me by a scientist; not backed by good clinical trials)

4. Fish oil has been shown to have an anti-inflammation effect ie. could potentially stop progress of arthritis. It has shown to have good symptomatic effect as well. Useful dosages are usually between 3g-7g daily. A lot of people do not take a sufficient dose for fish oil to be effective.

5. Neither fish oil nor glucosamine will 'cure' arthritis. If you have a joint problem please see an orthopaedic surgeon. Do not attempt to self-medicate. Alot of joint problems are easily treated. Some common joint problems like torn menisci in the knees (v.common for soccer players) if left untreated will cause early arthritis. No amount of fish oil or glucosamine will help you in such cases.

I'm also been taking glucosamine for a while now, but I only take it when my knees hurt. Anyway, I notice not all glucosamine is effective. The one I found that works for me is Viartril-S. It in power form and comes in small packets. Mix it with water and drink it.

Need both Chondroitin and Glucosamine to be effective. Not sure about others, but sure works for me in my cycling.

it appears to work, but no conclusive studies.

btw, fish oil can also help, best to try each in turn, then don't burn money if one doesn't work.
