i've been hunting down for some lenses in B & S, particularly 35mm dx f1.8 and 90mm macro (tamron). i've asked around shops for brand new ones and for the 35mm the lowest i've been quoted for is $350 inclusive of GST (lord's in orchard), for the 90mm tamron is $520 also with gst (bally in funan)... i browse around a lot in B & s here in CS, lookin for a good deal for these 2 lenses but most of the asking prices are ridiculously high... like buying brand new! 35mm 2nd hand selling for 360?!? 90mm tamron 2nd hand for 490?!? the seller asked for bidding some more... but incredibly, there are people bidding (for the tamron). are they plain stupid? or the seller is just making it up to sell his lens in a higher price? i just bought a brand new tamron 90mm macro lens nikon mount this morning in allan photo in funan for $490 gst inclusive with waranty (i have the receipt here with me to prove it, i can scan and post it here if need be)... so, for all you people looking for these lenses, buy a brand new one, please don't tolerate these sellers who think that buyers here in CS are stupid, and not doing their homework before buying things (of course there are several who really are dumb, and just buy things not knowing the real price). i wrote this thread 1)to make people/buyers aware of these sellers, please don't patronize them. & 2)coz i want to rant about it!

don't like the price, don't buy lor.

don't even bother to ask to lower price.. zero interest, the sellers will self-moderate and lower the price, end of story.. complain also no use..

This issue has been discussed to the death already.

You can scan all the receipts you want, but nobody's really going to care.

And don't berate stupid people. These people are important contributors to society. Without them, how would you know you're smart?

Also, to add: I don't think it's good form to sabo people's thread like that.

We should need more price police like u here to protect the ignorant and naive buyers

It has pretty much been like this. Dun think it will change so soon. People are too lazy to go out and actually enquire about the price from the shops. so they get chopped. :( Inspite of all the price guides being here on CS, they still won't take time to see.

But I do agree that its not nice to sabo people's thread like that. :nono:

i said i can scan and post the receipts "if need be"... just to prove that am not just making these prices up...

Please do so and post it up. So we can say if you are credible enough.

GMAN

anger management ah? lol

agree with the rest, its entirely up to the seller to price the items, like night86mare mentioned, no one buy just let them moderate loh.
some sellers may also have lost touch with photography and may not priced the item as to the current market price.

Honestly you have no argument here, its not like you had bought from these sellers, and even if you did, it is hardly unreasonable as you bid and bought it willingly.
Please don't state the obvious, of course everyone wants to sell their item at the highest price possible.

And if you call the buyers of these items "dumb" then y oh y, did you even bother to post this thread up.
Not very considerate of you to blacklist the selling threads and to ask ppl not to deal with them

i post it cos i want to rant about it... have you read the number 2 reason why i post it? and am not blacklisting these threads... i just put it here, because if i don't put it, people will ask which B & S post am i talking about... so, here it is... no more asking... plain and simple...

How many peanuts a seller is willing to transact for his lemons and vice versa is their own freaking problem. Why be such a busybody and meddle with their own private affairs? ;(

just like meddling on my affair? which is this post... i post it because i want to rant about it... so don't be a busybody and meddle in my affair... ok?

that's why i getting a new set of 35mm f1.8 instead of buying 2nd hand...

There are tons of people who buy on impulse. after they buy then they check the first hand price to see how much discount they saved. and to their horror... too bad for them.

It is true that people do buy on impulse.
It is true that some sellers fish the CS sea setting ridiculous high prices and yes, they do get lucky.
It may be true that tricks have been used to give the impression that an item is much sought after and bid price up (in such a scam, all pre-arranged bidders are buddy-crooks or all bids made by one person under different nicknames).

Though you may offend some sellers, you could be doing a public service if you can pick out those threads where pre-owned items are offered at prices higher than brand new from the shops. Continue to do so. This is one way to protect fellow CS members. Never mind if you are called a busybody.

In very rare cases, it is possible for used/old/pre-owned items to cost more than brand new. e.g. if it is not made anymore / is rare anniversary model / has collector value / is new model and so hot that all stocks have been bought up, next stock arrival is 6 months later and buyer is desperate to own this thing NOW. Such probability is like say, 1 in 500,000.

too high?

dun buy from them. problem solved.

I agree that sometimes the prices are somewhat on the high side.
In the end I just tend to look through B&S for fun.
Can't be bothered to buy anything.
Or rather with regards to lenses I won't bother.
Photographic Accessories are still moderately reasonable and I might buy depending
on how often I might use the item.
