Samsung: On a Camera, Two Screens Are Better Than One

The $350 DualView TL225 and $300 DualView TL220 feature a 1.5-inch LCD screen on the front (in addition to a larger LCD screen on the back) that enables photographers to better frame shots of themselves alone or in groups. Simply tap the front screen and the camera enters portrait mode and will automatically snap a photo when it detects a smiling face — no need to press a shutter button. The company demonstrated the new cameras at a press conference.

What are your views...? Do we really need another screen?
I personally think Till & swivel screens are much better.:sweatsm:

My answer would be - NO - I don't think I need 2 LCD.

To me..... it seems that Camera makers have very much run out of ways to improve on Photo Quality very since the 'Mega Pixals War' have made pictures nosier than before. Some are resorting to using gimmick like 2 LCD..... :sweat:

it's a cool idea though, but i think it has limited usage for serious photographers. maybe for consumers

A good DSLR has already two screens: the small on top for the settings and the big one on back for image review. But these two have a proper purpose in contrast to that lame excuse here for "to better frame shots of themselves alone or in groups". A tripod or any innocent bystander can do the job more properly. What does the snapper wants to see on that tiny screen at arm's length in sunlight?

The dual-LCD cameras also include a child mode that displays a cartoon animation on the front LCD screen to grab the attention of camera-unaware babies and toddlers.

unfortunately, the average consumer doesn't really care abt image quality. usually it is the features that will intrigue them more.

the point and shoot market is obviously dominated by the average consumer and hence, features outweigh image quality. besides, given the relatively small sensor of PnS camera, it is usually the limitation of semiconductor manufacturing technology that is hampering the image quality. i believe samsung does not manufactures the sensors themselves but rather, obtain from OEM sensors maker.

If I remember correctly.... NO one make in-house CMOS or CCD sensor anymore... not Canon, not Nikon. Most if not all sensor all now OEM made. :think:

This has it's place, just like how the swivel LCD has it's place. If you want a shot with say you and the wife or gf, or whatever, this can let you do it.

Probably will be much cheaper and equally effective if they use the reflective square deployed in Sony mobilephones. The square allows you to see your reflective when you photograph yourself.

Nevertheless dual LCD will add to compact innovation since camera has not to much to offer these day. Next upcoming will be camera cum projector from Nikon.

Only good for self portraits, I think.

When you want to take candid shots, the person you are taking can see whether he/she is being aimed at.
Unless the front LCD can be switched off, then I think it's fine.

This is exactly my point. Sensor's technology has direct impact on image quality and this is an area whereby camera makers have no control over. hence, majority of the new models of compact cameras has little or no improvement over image quality since they do not have direct R&D effort to come out with better sensors.
