How would you transport your tripod?

Hi all. Just want to ask opinions on this. I recently purchased a decent-for-the-price 190xprob + 486RC2 tripod and might move on to a markins q3 head at the end of the year. Just wanan ask how you all would transport your tripod when traveling.

2 of my camera bags have built-in tripod holder..... for those bags that doesn't have one, then I'll use the tripod own carrying case/bag :thumbsup:

Yup. I used to do that, but I found that having a tripod strapped to your already thick bag makes you bang into lots of other people/things.

check in with your luggage if your bag is big enough or check in as a separate luggage if you have a carrying ase for it. Once arrive at destination, you can hook it to your belt using a carabiner, sling it on shoulder, carry it around your neck, hand carry, etc.

To be honest, only the Gitzo traveller series is travel friendly. All others are quite a pain to bring along.

I'm not sure if I would be getting the Q3T as opposed to saving money by going for the Q3 from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290330902847 and other links.

Carabiner + tripod of mass 2kg kind of doesn't fit ^^ Of course, with a G1541T it will, but not with a 190xprob.

I have no issues with packing for travel to the destination. It's a matter of how I would transport the tripod while I'm traveling and using it.

Lots of bags. I believe he's talking about a tripod foot holder + some sort of strap-on.

To clarify, mine is more of a daypack/backpack. So its not really that big and bulky. Not as much likely to bang into stuff compared to carrying the bag only. Up to you to choose a suitable size.

Just moving around or short trip.... I'll just strap the tripod onto the bag.... for Plane Ride.... I'll use tripod bag/case and then carry onboard plane. Once on location.... strap onto my bag again. Yeah..... big and heavy, but since I use a DIY Black Rapid system.... can't sling the camera on one side and tripod bag/case on the other..... :sweat: In any case.... the tripod is strap on the centre, at the back, of the bag.... only bang into people when I move backwards.......

If I'm putting my 190CXPro3 in the check-in luggage, I'll stuff the tripod in my Thinktank Bazooka. If I'm hand-carrying, then it's a tripod sling.

I think strapping it to the back of your backpack is still the best way. Keeps your shoulder and hands free.

Big bulge and heavy when fully loaded with my tripod >15kg. Which is why I am shedding weights off my lenses and tripod.

i strapped to my backup to transport the tripod but it gets cumbersome when you are moving around because it actually can knock into people unknowingly.. i used to put the tripod into the tripod bag but it's troublesome to carry 2 bags though when you take plane..

i will dump the tripod into the check-in luggage if the weight allows though.. now i have a monopod to my collection.. i guess i will need to think of another way to carry all the load..

Put tripod into luggage and check in at airport.
When on location, strap it onto the centre-back of my back with tripod leg holder and walk around.

Always in the luggage bag, and when using it. It's a tripod strap and over the shoulders.
Used to be over my wife's shoulder though.
Now I carry it. :bsmilie: All by myself.

Put in my tripod bag, and sling the tripod bag on shoulder. If the tripod does not come with a bag, and you do not intend to buy one, can put it on the camera back pack .

I uses Matin ( quite like Optech) and Thinktank bazooka tripod bag.

Think Tripod Strap still works the best, as in ease of access when u are lugging so much weight of ur equipment around. U wan to set up as fast as u can but at a downside of not getting enough protection for ur equipment.

I am using domke F3x. My tripod is compact enough to slot in one of the leg into the F3x hand strap
