hi all Ruz here..i just got a 500D yesterday..a gift from my Aunt for my 21st birthday..belated birthday..and i'm very much interested in photography so hopefully i can learn a thing or two about photography here.. =p..

and a friend lent me a Canon Speedlite 580ex ii and i mounted it onto my 500d. Everything was working fine but there's no pilot light at all. so no pilot light=no flash. :(

i just wanna know,if theres something wrong with the flash e.g: do i need to have the flash tube changed? etc.. or isit just a small matter like say, flash/camera settings or something?

hope to get some response soon cos i'm kinda panicking already.. :(

thanks guys..

Welcome

Hi welcome.... how's the 580 EX II, wanted to own one ... for my new 500D ...:)

Warm greeting to you..
Welcome to clubsnap!

Did your friend know how to test a flash? If yes, ask him
Ok, at the rear of your flash, there should be a button state PILOT.

when you on the flash with fully charged batteries, without mounting the flash on the camera, you can press on the pilot, and the flash light shoot fire. If it fire, means the flash unit should be fine.

If it is not fire, means something wrong with the flash

If it fire, but once you mount on camera, and you press shutter, it did not fire, could be the problem of flash hot shoe.

To be more confirm, just bring your camera with flash, down to Canon service center. Google their address.
