Hello everyone,
I had been registered here long time ago but have not started my new DSLR Photography hobby yet so I decide to start it off right now. Which DSLR camera model for starting to learn in basic steps? I reckon that this question may sounds silly but really wish to know your opinions. Thanks. :embrass:

Firstly work out your budget.
Then shortlist the cam from the various brands (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, Panasonic, Samsung)
Next you go to the shops to try them in your hand
Shortlist the one that suits you best and see where to get it at the best price.
Pay for it and you're ready to go.

Seriously, any entry level DSLR is able to give you great results if you used them within their limits.
Happy shopping. :)

For the point that you stated, ANY dslr will do, even the old models.

Yea i agree,

just a basic set-up will really do.

the accessories will come in later,

but of course get something you're comfortable with and within your budget.

if you are seriously myopic, don't get a D70 with a 1.8 inch screen where you have to squin your eyes to see,

but maybe a D40 with a 2.5 inch screen?

IMHO, I think all entry-level cameras are easy to use.

Understanding the cameras are easy.
Understanding Photography is much tougher.

I think for a start, it might be good to choose a DSLR which you can afford, or perhaps someone very close to you have a similiar brand. You can then, borrow lenses, etc.

like wat others said, all entry level DSLR will serve you well, it's the photographer behind the camera tat decide the outcome.

firstly, you will need to have in mind how much is your budget, shortlist a few cameras that you are interested in, go down to the shops to try out all different cameras and see how it feels in your hand, and also se if you are comfortable with all the settings etc, then go on and buy! :bsmilie: dun forget to save some extra bucks for the dry cabinet, filter, bag, tripod etc etc.

First, decide on the area of interest, then, determine the right body/lens combination as well as accessories.

To be very frank, don't rush straight into getting a tripod so quickly.

yup agree.. i'm still using the free tripod came together with my d90 as freebie, yes it's not stable and with a lot of limitations, but i'm happy with it and it serve me well so far. :bsmilie:

it's good to get the freebies and use them first if you have no experience in all those stuffs, after a while of usage, they will give u an idea of wat features of tripod/bag/accessories that will suit u best, by then you will know wat you need and wat to buy.

cheers! :)

even the canon a series, which i started off with.. which are p&s with manual function, and really quite cheap, are good for learning about photography.

i still use an a series now and then, though not for serious photography. p&s are pretty limited for landscape. but why not start off with that if you want to learn, and then go on.. a p&s is always going to be useful.

that said, any dslr model will do, all dslr models have manual functions.

some people will tell you that entry level dslr is not enough, that is nonsense, loads of people have made beautiful breathtaking pictures that trump the pictures of some of the pro level users we see in these forums.. that said, just take note, nikon entry level dslrs have a catch, i.e. that of not being able to autofocus with every lens unless it has an inbuilt motor.

one other advice is to look at other brands, not just the popular crowd brands.

sure, they are popular for a reason, but not everyone will want all that they offer.

i used pentax for a good reason (features for price), and i continued with it for a good reason. as long as it doesn't drop the ball for me, i'll continue using it :)

Go and test all these entry level DSLR:

Canon EOS 1000D

Nikon D60

Sony A230

Pentax K-m

Olympus E520
