Flights from SG to Tokyo

Following on from this thread (http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482167), now I need to get to Tokyo.

Anyone knows which airlines ply the SG to Tokyo route? I'm trying to find one which :

1. Uses Airbus 330 planes (I prefer planes with a two seater configuration at the window sides.

2. Direct flights (seems to be cheaper?).

don't know about the type of plane

but SQ/ANA/JAL/Northwest and united has flights to narita

from here

Suggest that you download the Star Alliance timetable (the installation file either for PC or Mac) here: http://www.staralliance.com/en/travellers/tools_services/downloadable_timetable.html#apl1, which will tell you what kind of plane they use for each flight if you check the flight details.

Then use http://www.seatguru.com/ to see how the particular airline configures the plane.

I'm flying through Narita soon, and IIRC the Singapore-Narita leg is on an ANA Boeing 767, they're configured with 2 seats next to the window.

Northwest flies to Narita from Singapore with A330, flight time sucks but you get there around 2pm.

Flight is 7 days aweek and always when I have flown this route 90% full.

Well!

you should have asked me.

UA/JL/SQ/CX/MH

UA- united airlines (early morning flight(direct) ) but experience is really very lousy (no offence)
b777 plane.

JL - SIN-KUL-NRT ( not really sure if there is this route but maybe)

SQ - dont need to say

CX- transfer at HKG.

MH- SIN-KUL-NRT (expensive)

UA or NWA is good, no bad experience only thing is the 6am fly off and it is cheap with promo, paid $475 for a return.
JAL leaves at close to midnight, arrive in NRT in the morning but I find it rather stuffy.
SQ, similar flight timing with JAL, I only flew on their 747, service was good, not great.

MA (Malaysia Airline) had a promo recently but they do transit at KL, so travel time is +2 to 3hrs.. but the air fare is below 400

in the end, it is your preference which to fly with, my last trip in May with NWA was good, even with the odd fly time but I was going for 7 days and don't mind it at all. If you have no budget constraint, then you should choose SQ with their new airbus. I, personally don't feel the need to pay extra as long as I'm comfortable during the flight. SQ/JAL/NWA doesn't make a diff to me, I rather spend more on hotels or during my travel then on a 7hrs flight which I spend 3/4 of the time asleep.

I dont think they are any, except if you want SQ. Narita is the main hub for nearly all the major airlines (except SQ) that service the China/ USA regions, which all leave for those destinations from 2pm Japan time onwards.

SQ departs for Tokyo 747-400 everyday 09:40 - arrive 17:40
SQ departs for Tokyo A380-800 everyday 23:40 - arrive 07:50

Fare 800.00 + 76.00 = 876.00

Northwest: A330 - leaves 6.10am - arrives 1.00+ fare 475.00
JAL: departs 10:40PM Arrives Narita 6:35am fare 1k+ 747/767/777
ANA- Dont fly from here direct
Korean fly via Seoul.

best timing is still JAL and SQ, you arrive in NRT after a good night sleep. Unless you are one of those that cannot sleep in the plane, then you shouldn't fly during those timing . If sleeping on the plane isn't sufficient, you can continue with it on the train from Narita to Greater Tokyo area

I just went with a friend for a week trip using North West - Delta Airline.

The flight departed from Changi T1 at 5:40 am but you need to check in at least 2 hours before (Remember this is american airline, and the next route after tokyo is america, even if you final destination is actually just tokyo. The checks is still very tight).
Arrive in tokyo at 2:05pm but that is just arrival at airport, clearing customs and waiting for your luggage can take up to 1 hours depending on the number of visitors. Then roughly about 1 hour by train ride from airport to your destination. We manage to get express line so there is less stops. Need to change line and go to local line just before rush hours. I end up reaching hotel and check-in (near Oimachi station) around 5 pm. Still got time for a stroll since it is summer and shops are still open.

Departure from tokyo back to singapore is at 6:45 pm, but again you need to budget time. I left hotel at 1 pm and took the cheaper train (more stops) and reach Narita Terminal 1 at 3:30 pm and the check-in counter just opened. The flight was delayed for a while due to rain and strong wind, and we arrived a bit late in singapore because of the delay, around 2 am. The luggage come out quite late as we are the first few to check in (damn).

my experience with northwest is good. Avoid UA flight as timing and the entertainment sucks in the plane... The worse flight entertainment i encounter so far...

For example if you are watching the movie, dun expect to pause or or view it anytime. It has certain showtime on air... Airbus is a little old and crampy.

Just my experience thou. ANA is excellent choice. But if you are not on budget, i suggest u take business class... My experience in business class on northwest is excellent.

UA is the only one around with Channel 9... that itself is the best entertainment around!

Anyway, to the TS, if you're keen on a nonstop A330 to NRT, then you're stuck with NorthWest.

If you're OK with other places in Japan, SQ does fly the A333 to other Japanese ports.

Other A330 carriers around are probably MH, CX, TG, KE, OZ, but all with stops along the way.

FYI - ANA does fly direct to NRT, twice daily on 767 equipment.

Mine is for 3hour flight.
7 hours is good till no where also

Thanks everyone for the tips and tricks; looks like Northwest is the only option if I want a 2 seater config next to window.

One other consideration I forgot is, does Northwest allow confirmed seat selection upon the time of booking? (Like the way SQ does).

Ah yes one more question; I haven't booked on SIA for a very long time; but was it possible to see the seats available before actually paying for it? I can't remember if I need to pay then I can choose seats, or I can just enter dummy information until the seats selection then see from there.

Reason I'm asking now is because I spot quite a couple of 2 seater configurations in the SQ flights, the A380 has the second level full of them; but not sure if they are available.

Well, unfortunately , you aren't able to view seats before paying.
Even dummy no.
Only way is to get to the airport early. Request for seats you want at the counter.

Actually, there is pay to use lounges in the airport. So you dont have to worry where to go , when you arrive at the airport early.

I am not sure about the couple seats becus i haven't been on SQ for some time. Last flight on SQ was 2 years back. But as far as i know its chargeable at USD $50 for every seat requested.

It's expensive but there is this quote that says " you pay what you use"
