Hi All,

Any recommendation for Olympus E-500 body + kit lens (14-42mm)? is it a worth to buy this camera for a beginner like me? One of forum member is selling it around S$350 so I thought I should give it a try so please give me your comments? Thanks

Naveed.

Have you read the reviews? Tested it? Made sure it's specs meet your needs?

YOU will be the one using it, so we cannot tell you what to buy.

Thanks for your reply. Well I just need some entry level DSLR camera to start experiencing DSLR photography so I am looking some cheap models to buy at first and its better to buy a good one after getting some experience.

I Know this Olympus E-500 is pretty much old model but feature wise its ok for me I think, so I just need to confirm the price that whether its ok to buy around S$300 or not. Thanks

I'm not sure whether the E-500 have Image Stabilizer function.
But if you're a beginner, and you're unsure about shaky hands, get the E-510 instead.

I'm using the E-510, it has IS.
Very useful for indoors! ;)

Not a bad price, but i'd rather save a bit more to get a E510 kit. There's no in-body IS on the E500, making it much less atractive.

Before I use E-510, I tried my friend's 350D with kit lens.
NO in-body IS and no lens IS..

Tons of blurred images (indoors shots) which can't really be seen on the cam's LCD screen.
Upload it to the com to view, you'll curse and swear. ;)

NOTE: This was before I started photography as a serious hobby..

Thanks a lot for your valuable comments, I dont think that E500 is having IS or not, actually I am pretty much tight with my budget so that is why I was considering to buy E500 anyhow lets see if I can get a good deal for E510 or some other brand :)

Thanks

The E500 is quite a good cam, I had owned & used it for a brief moment. The cam does not have IS, but if you have fast lenses, a tripod or a flash, images should not be blur. Alternatively, you can look for a cam with build in IS like the Konica Minolta 5D or Pentax K100D.

Owner of E-500 currently, just my own opinion, others may differ
- As others had said, no IS, not a problem as long as you have steady hands
- Viewfinder wise, to me its rather small & very strainous on the eyes especially at night

I would say, if you can afford to pay more, get a better model, E-510/520.

But at $350 for a DSLR, you can't really complain. ;p

I agree,in the past,in the film days,no such things as IS,yet photographers are still able to capture shots,IS is a blessing, not a need,I always tell myself,if photographers in the past can do it,so can I,I've used E-500 before, heck, with the cameras I'm using,I don't even turn on the IS,and I still shoot film,no IS anywhere

I agree. Nowadays many are so used to IS for camera or lenses.
So w/o IS, under lower light, some may tend to get blurry images.

I admit that I'm 1 of this type of person.. :embrass:

I'll suggest you read through the reviews on this camera.. or look in the four-thirds sections for any photos posted shot with this camera..
