My neighbours upstairs has a kid who is very noisy. I keep hearing stamping sounds when he is playing. I am not sure what is it, probably some basketball or toy car or something. I don't hear any talking or noise, just banging on my ceiling... not sure what he is bouncing or dropping on their floor.

I have talked to them about it but it improves for like one day and back to normal. Is there anything I can do, like call police. Can the police do something about it?

It's an issue with HDB units, our downstairs neighbor complained once that we were too noisy etc with banging and "marbles" sounds etc... Twice she complained about it, both times there wasn't anybody in the house but myself working on my computer... After some investigation (by myself actually), turns out that there was a contruction in one of the units 3 floors above us and the vibration/noise just goes through the structure making it hard to locate.

One time, I kept hearing pounding noises from above our master's bedroom (but less noticeable in the living room), it kept going on for like 2 months, around 10pm or so. I went up several times just to see if I can witness the noise happening as I don't want to accuse without proof. Turns out that the unit above ours wasn't even occupied (owners were out of the country)... After several nights of investigating, it turns out to by our next door neighbor pounding chili at night.

It's a bit hard to deduce the source directly, unfortunately.

I agree with this. Sounds travel through the beams and get amplified else where at a weak spot. Weak spot as in not structural defect, but a place where the sound can actually be dissipated easily.

As for the infamous marble sounds, some say its the spirit of a child who lost his/her parents and that he/she plays with marbles at night. This case was very frequent at Bukit Batok areas. HDB later said, that it was the expanding and contracting, metal rebar inside the structure that caused the noise. Nothing to worry about. But kinda freaky though.

there are marble sounds but most of the time is thumping sounds, like a ball being bounced on the floor or things dropped onto the floor.

It is definately upstairs because the noise will stop when we use our bamboo pole to hit the ceiling.....

Haha...:bsmilie: Does that tactic really work?

it worked very well the FIRST time as I think they were shocked...

but its effectiveness drops as they builds up immunity to it.

I can't hear ANY human voices so the sound insulation is very good. But the thumping noises is driving me nuts. It is something or someone hitting their floor hard, or maybe an elephant running in their bedroom or something.

most probably ghost or your imagination, maybe some people doing you know?

can't beat my neighbour from china next door whom without fail, will have shoutings everyday between the mum and daughter.. its quite sad to hear the mum even scolding her own daughter 'wang ba dan' in mandarin and i heard before the daughter probably age 10 or younger asking her mum to go and die...

Set your alarm at 3 am & place it near the windows when you go away for travels.

My ex-colleague has a neighbour upstairs who keep dogs. The dogs were on a steel leash. So when the dogs run around the house, the steel leash will make a lot of noise on the floor. Worst than children running around.

Another ex-colleague's neighbour upstairs came down to look for him, said my colleague's speakers were affecting his goldfish on top.

All sorts of neighbours we have.

at what time are they very noisy? after 11 pm? before 7 am? else you got no case...

call town council, dont call police.
