Autofocus - cross-type and line-type

I wonder how big a difference it makes to have multiple focus points cross-type? I've used the line-type points without much problems, however I'm not sure how it compares to cross-type points in terms of speed AND accuracy. Is it worth investing in a body with multiple cross-type points?

How low light is your low light?

Does your low light equate to ISO 3200, f/2.8, 1/30s or thereabouts?

I tried to focus using the line-type points on a piece of foolscap paper. I found that it tried hard to focus (errors/searching). Turned the paper 90 degrees and problem solved. It could only detect horizontal details I guess. I tried using the cross-type and had no problem; fast and accurate. I wonder how it translate to real world performance, especially when shooting fast moving objects.
