Filter stacking order

Does the order I stack filters onto my lens matter?

Eg: If I am using red filter and CPL.
CPL -> red -> lens? or red -> CPL - > lens
shouldn't make any difference right, since the light needs to pass through all...

What are your preferences?

read this when i was reading singh ray and lee filters site when choosing my filters set...

they said that CPL should be the one at the front line, i.e. far most from body... in order to get the max polarized effect...
