Any experience bros who went to Melbourne often?

Basically i am finding a suitable accomodation that is near Monash University (clayton campus) for 3 cos i am hoping to go there for my graduation ceremony next year.

Any recommendations? :)

i'd recommend a serviced apartment if you are here for a short stay as they are generally cheaper than a hotel room and have all your facilities from home (stove, microwave, fridge, etc). google quest and punt hill serviced apartments.

ohh i will only be there for a few days, probably 5. :)

Clayton is in a way out of place from City. If you take train or drive, it will takes you about 1/2 hr. If you only there for the ceremony, i suggest you stay in City area and just take a cab there or rent a car and drive there. For city accomodation, i think Central Equity has some nice service apartment for rental. Cheaper rentals in motels is available around St Kilda area.

thanks! actually i found this hotel, novotel glen waverley which looks pretty near to the campus... but not sure if this hotel is very far from the city area? i intend to rent a car and ask my dad to drive us ard... probably will go to those usual tourist places like great ocean road, hunter's valley etc. :)

yes, you should definitely go Great Ocean Road, in fact, if you are driving, what most people do is drive there in morning, stay overnight then go grampians...I don't think there's anything much in glen waverley iirc.

I guessed you or ur family member is enrolling with the uni?
I live in Melbourne, if you need info or anything send me a pm.
Bring a waterproof jacket with a hood. It's friggin cold here and windy, umbrella is useless.

You undertook a distance degree from Monash? Coz you don't sound familiar with Melbourne at all.
If you have a map of Melbourne handy (or can just go online to google maps), you'll see that Clayton is somewhere to the east of Melbourne city. Quite far out by Singapore standards, but not far by theirs.

thanks! actually, i will come down just for a few days cos i am attending my graduation ceremony on campus. :)

On contrary, a walk from inside hotel room in Singapore to anywhere outside, like from Mandarin to Taka, is considered far for our Australian standards.

haha ok... i saw from google map... its like 1 straight road down then turn at a junction. but i am curious... is this hotel too far off from those places i want to visit? :)

Glen Waverley Novotel is about 10 mins drive to Monash Clayton. There are quite a lot restaurants and shops near novetel hotel.

Its takes around 30 mins (Drive) to travel from Glen Waverley Novotel to Melbourne City.

It shouldn't be a problem if your dad is driving.

As from attraction like Great Ocean Road (GOR), i guess it doesn't matter much if you are staying in city or glen waverley as the travelling time is only 30mins of difference.

From city to GOR the driving would takes couple of hours.

Enjoy ur stay in Melbourne, it's a beautiful city. The weather is cold now, gonna bring your winter clothing as well.

you must come from the lazy part of Australia ;)
where I used to live, people walked lots and lots especially along the scenic coastal walks.

How many Apostles are now left out of the 12 along the Great Ocean Road? My guess is about 7.

There are 11 apostles left, 1 went down recently.

Anyway, GOR is about 3 hours drive down from the City. Depends on traffic conditions and speed too. On the way to GOR, you can actually stop by Geelong (although there isn't much to see, but a nice place to take photos imo), Apollo Bay, a few lighthouses too.

Remember to bring rent a GPS from the car rental company if you can too, it helps alot! Bring some vomit bags if any of your family has motion sickness. The route to GOR isn't a fun road to travel.

Just my 2cents worth, hope it helps!

thanks for all the advises! :)

by the way, whats the weather like for may? cos i am going next year may... :)

early May should still be all right. Not too cold.
But then again Melbourne is famous for the fickle weather. You should know this if you studied at Monash....?
