Hi. am planning to get a Selphy Printer to print out photos tat i have taken

is it good? anyone here have one?

sure i have one...for some reason it likes to underexpose the output so have to brighten up before printing. If price for price is the same, i would recommend Sony`s instead since the cartridge is around same price as Canon.

i own both sony and canon.. not much difference..

however there is a difference if you have the kodak one. but it's been discontinued a long time already.. and the cartridge isnt cheap..

portable printers - dont have too high expectations

Sorry to "hijack" but I would like to suggest something.
If you want quality prints, don't get Selphy.

My cousin has one, the colours come out weird at times, especially for landscape.

Hi Jonnieboy, I used both Canon (760) and Sony (75).
If you want to print direct from camera go for Sony, as someone already mentioned you will have underexposed print out with Canon!

so u suggesting sony too?

hmm.. so sony is better? alright.. will check sony out instead. thanks! :)

I have a Canon Selphy CP740 and it is not fantastic. Photos normally come out underexposed by at least 1 stop, and the sharpness is not what you would normally expect. So I have to normally boost up the exposure and sharpness before printing.

But is is very good for casual printing and fun to print tons of kids photos to be plastered around your home/office. Until today, I've not printed a single landscape picture from it. It's not pricey, but then again the poorer quality is what you get.

Tip: Bring along a memory card of photos and see if the shop allows you to do a test print before you buy. Don't trust those demo prints as they are optimised to show you the best.

Great thread, I'm just thinking of getting a portable printer too. Thanks to TS and all for the contributions.

I agree. The prints seems it printed for those 10 ink cartridges printer!
The results is not what is shown on the sample.. :)

just bought a sony picture station. will give some review when i set it up and print some pics. ;)

i had a choice of buying a selphy or sony for work purposes. at CP they show me and my friend 2 pics we both agreed that the canon one looked better over the sony (blind test we didnt know which was which) and we did take a pic on the spot and test print and it concurred with the results

so we bought the canon and we have printed well over 700 prints between us (2 printers CP760)

image quality wise its consumer grade passable, the printouts tend to be warmer so we just set biases in the computer b4 we print out and it'll be okay. Exposure wise it tends to acutally underexpose by a little bit but nothing that we have any major problems or qualms with. overall its a good printer just that if u print alot non-stop you tend to get overheating warning messages.

but these are small portable printers, if you are looking for better quality and speed dont expect the same size or price that you get in this little package
