hi there,just want to talk about the B+W filter
now i m tring to get one CPL for my canon 17-40,seems got so many types of the polarizer filter,MRC CPL,SLIM CPL,NON SLIM and KSM CPL. just want to know the difference between the ksm cpl and mrc cpl,which one is better?anyway for normal player,is it necessary to pick up such a expensive cpl? the price i think is the most expensive one among all the B+W polarizer filter

b+w is the high quality and more convenient to clean than other brand,if i m not wrong,:think:

anyways, i don't use filters most of the time. your lens is designed to take pictures best when naked, since it was that way when they engineered it

why need b+w?

You spent $$$ and buy a L lens, does it make sense to then put on a $5 filter? The lens is only as good as the worst piece of glass, and the filter is one piece of glass!

i think most people spend too much time worrying about their gear instead of shooting.

keeping your gear out of danger, being alert, all these count way more than a filter in terms of protection. if you don't slam your camera into a wall, you don't need filter. if you don't somehow manage to drop your camera because you did something silly, you don't need a filter.

To CFM56-7B, as night86mare said, the difference is marginal. Some people do swear by the "branded" stuff, but you are the best judge whether the price is worth the perceived quality.

If you have friends that have other brands of CPLs, you should borrow them and try it out. The point is, if you can't tell the difference in image quality between a $200 CPL and one that cost $50, then why do you want to pay $150 more?

Second thing, is the difference (with and without the CPL) really make that much a difference to you in a photo? How often do you use a CPL? and if the answer is not much and not very often, I would suggest you can even save that $50 and put your $200 to better use.
