Hi, I'm deciding whether to buy the Nikon D90 or the Canon 500D, I've been eyeing both of them, but can only buy 1. Movie recording is not that important to me, what I would like to have is a camera that has quick autofocus, and great image quality as I often crop my images and then blow them up.

Lens selection is critical also, Nikon lenses seem to be more expensive than Canon's, I'm considering getting a 50mm 1.8/F prime lens, and a zoom lens, like 70-300mm.

Which camera would be more value for money? As I would be purchasing more lens in the future.

Please feel free to comment or give suggestions, all are welcome.

Thanks!

Dude, seriously. Try a search. This is probaby the 500th time this has been asked.

And if live view and video are not important to you ,and instead you want fast autofocus on a tighter budget, I suggest Sony or Pentax.

For body, go for D90. For lenses, go for 500D.

Sometimes I just have to admire your love for Sony.. :p

If AF speed is critical to him, then the A700 is the camera to go for. It beats even the higher-end C and N models. You may call is love for Sony, but facts are facts.

If you are choosing between D90 and 500D, then the D90 is better. I'm not impressed by Canon's AF, especially when in low light.

Yes, but you do get what you pay for. Nikkor lenses are excellent, and many of them beat the (more expensive) Canon L lenses too.

Between the 2? The D90.

I am a canon user.
Between the 2, I would go for D90.

All are good. Try them out, see which one you feel more comfortable with.

Buy, don't look back.

Hi, I'm a 500D user.

You said that you often crop and blow images big. Then 500D's 15mp sensor might be better for you than D90, as long as you don't shoot at high ISOs often, cos D90 does have better noise performance than 500D. but at ISO 400 and below, 500D's image quality is very good (with decent lens).

But from my experience, D90 has better grip than 500D and shoots at faster fps than canon.
so if you can survive with 12mp, than i must say the D90 looks like a better deal. I'm stuck with Canon cos of my glass, but if i'm can invest into a new system now, I might just go D90 :)

Between the 2, i will choose 50D. (Joking la)

This really has been discuss millions of times. I think most of the shooter here post this kind of question when they about to buy their first DSLR. (am i right?)

i recommend you to go those reputable shop and hand on to try out.
Try the feelings when you hold them. I think this is very important. why? coz even you have a great spec. body, if you feel uncomfortable when you hold it. then how can u shoot comfortably?

Just like shoot rifle, uncomfortable position would not give u good result.
