Hey chengsing, I'm not a SMU student so will I be eligible to attend this workshop?

Maybe I should rephrase my question. I'm not a student so I'm wondering if a working adult will be able to attend this event. :)

Yup Certainly all are welcome to attend the talk.
Tertiary Students are given priority thats all.

Once you received a confirmation email from us, means your registration is confirmed.

went for the talk.. steve was good..
but i donno why some people ask some funny qn...

at the saturday talk at ACM, a lot of people were quite amused when this one audience asked steve what camera and what lens he uses.

pretty sad if you ask me.

instead of using the opportunity to get insights of a great photographer, we have some dude wanting to know the camera make as if it will change the quality of his photos..

great talk....so much sacrifie he has made and prepare himself....is just amazing....His passion for photography is amazing..........5years to prepare himself..............I salute his spirit...fr passion to work to now a business(Magnum)...

ANd yes i to think the question of camera made is stupid...maybe nikon send him there...then now everybody wants a D3x or a D700..oh and he mentioned he used 2470...so now sales of 2470 will be boosted..........

Yes..how many who really love their passion can do this kind of sacrifice or maybe take the courage to step out....

i wonder if his wife is a photographer

I read the below in his blog. I guess it echoes your sentiment on how many people can take this step out for their passion?

"When people ask me how they can become a photographer, I almost never mention cameras, lenses, or technique. I say, ‘If you want to be a photographer, first leave home.’ As Paul Theroux, a great writer and friend, further advises, “Go as far as you can. Become a stranger in a strange land. Acquire humility. Leaving home really means that the photographer (or writer) has to wander, observe, and to paraphrase Theroux, concentrate on people in their landscape. That is what I try to achieve in my pictures."

how many ppl has e guts to do this and not worry abt feeding your family. Really not easy and he even say he can't imagine not to be doing this and to be at those places some dangerous and some safer. He devote his life to it. Even iran which is quite bad now is one of target. I half suspect he's so good now that d US government helps him gain access to some controversial region.

May be to help people like me who was not at the session, can you let me know what are the sacrifices you are referring to?

And about the question of camera, who knows, may be the person who asked that question was from certain brands and the whole idea is to promote the brand? ;p
