guys, i have not been to our neighbour's soil for years and have never been there with
a thousand dollar gear sling to my neck, would it be safe to walk on the street with my
gear and family?

planning to go to the holiday plaza tomorrow. ;)

kam sia, :)

i seen a 50+ guy neck on with solid 1dm3 type body with a prominent white 70-200f2.8IS len going towards city square, in my heart i really hope he will be fine from robs and snatch thiefts.....

A friend who's a mod for one of the MY forums helped me the last time I needed to find out. He said do not bring DSLR unless it's absolutely necessary as in you have to do an assignment. For leiaure trip, just bring along a P&S. I followed his advise, and found that hardly anyone paid me much attention even when I was shooting around the seedier areas other than to wonder this guy siao har!

Went to JB countless times with my notebook, smartphone, dslr, etc. Even used it in the busy streets, etc.. so far so good. No seedy characters trailing me. But then again, why bring DSLR to holiday plaza, nothing to shoot.

For me I just stuff my stuffs into a worm out school bag.

What about Indonesia? Is it safe to bring dslr?

... just dun wear expensive watches or jewellery, wear simple casual.

woah hazmee! amazing photos! great captures, timings. excellent compositions too! niceee! enjoyed your photos!

as for me, i'll bring my dslr without a doubt. i guess prob so far my experiences there had been a "non-adventurous" one. but then again, do take the necessary precautions. but, er holiday plaza shoot... ? family??

Keep low profile.
You will be safe.
I go often.

By the way, the would-be robbers may be Indonesian illegal immigrants or local down-and-outs.

If you think generally most of the JBians or Malaysians are poor and need to rob you of your DSLR, it is time to wake up. You need to see the limousines they are driving in JB nowadays. MLY licence plates, not Sing licence plates.

They are much better off than you and me, no kidding.

Their quality of life is higher. Cost of living much lower.

The worker who takes a motorcycle each day across causeway into Sing to work, goes home each day to JB.

Doubling his income Sing$ to RM. Maybe he rides the bike home to a landed two storey freehold property with two cars in the drive way.

You and me ? ha... don't talk about it.

u talk about me....
but bear in mind, we woke up 5:30am and reached home around 8pm. but working hours only 8:30am to 6pm...hard earn money...

yah. yah. malaysia is full of camera robbers. thats why the malaysia photo forum is so active. they are all thieves who stole singaporean's dslrs... BS!

Not even safe to bring your DSLR to Fort Canning...

I seldom use my DSLR in JB alone. But I will use that with friends or family members together.
Sad to say so, the security in JB is really getting worse and worse.
So, it is strongly recommended not to bring your DSLR if u travel alone.

Bring a solid monopod to whack thieves.

Alternatively, try mace.
