My camera neck strap is securely attached to the camera body and after a day's shooting tend to be moist. I normally dismantle the lenses them in a dry box. I will leave overnight for the strap to be dried before putting into the dry box. Is this the most effective way before putting the camera and strap into the dry box?

Hair dryer is the answer :)

instead of dismantling lens, why dun u release the strap from body, and put body + lens into dry cabi. this way, u dun even need to put the strap into the dry cabi, ensuring no moist at all. of course, strap on n off may be troublesome, so a clip on one shud help.

When it's badly soiled, I just remove the strap and wash it... after thorough cleaning and drying, then I will replace it back onto the camera.

Do remember to remove all traces of the soap or detergents as it can irritate your skin.

you can opt for a third party strap like optech which lets you unbuckle the strap.

Thanks for the good suggestion. Can you recommend which strap which can be buckle and unbuckle to the camera body? My strap is original Canon one which comes with the 500D. It is comfortable. Is there a comfortable one available?

you can put the Sweaty original camera strap in the washing machine to wash, but do remember to remove camera from the strap. if you find it is to troublesome, use Optech Strap like what other CSers had suggested.

:bsmilie: I almost fell off the chair laughing when I read this... Somehow I had this image of someone washing his/her camera together with strap in the washing machine...

Me also like the idea of a quick release buckle, but I kinda feel worried that it will open up with weight of camera + lens (not that my setup is heavy) dangling from my neck.
So to appease my apprehension, I have no choice but to use hairdryer or occasionally remove strap to wash when it's very dirty.

so that's the way to clean the camera. =)
i had some worries for the unclipping too. but it hasn't happened to me accidentally either. i'm using a d80 too with a 400g lens.

Dun worry about it opening... I use a D200 with grip and couple it with a 70-210 pull push (heavy lens) occasionally with the SB-800 and the clip still holds...

If you're worried, then use a short length of velcro to hold the clips together. :)

haha nice quip .. the camera could be taking a revolving angle inside the washing machine :bsmilie:

is it secure .. spring type buckle? price?

If it is not secured, what for we recommend it here? make sense rite?

You can get it below $30

Can also choose a baby detergent like KODOMO or TOLLYJOY. Almost no hypo-allergenic reactions reported.

GOD Bless.

you will not know it might have one "Mr Bean" try to wash the camera with the strap that way.....

anyway, you are worry too much about the the quick release buckle on the OpTech strip, this design already in the market for so many donkey years, so far have not hear about any case of the quick release buckle snapped or gave way.

hmm.. how about RS straps? Quick release/strap w/pockets for storage/etc. I myself find it a tad too ex, but if it suits TS needs why not?

or a DIYed quick release neck/sling strap?
