Hi, guys

my very first post in the Kopitiam. ;)

I am planning to buy a ipod stuff in the coming pic show, for my gril friend, she will start working this July and may need a ipod on the MRT. I have no idea about the ipod stuff, always used cd player before (very old style).

Question is :If i 80% use it to play music and 20% for other stuff like video and pics, which one should I go for? classic or ipod touch?

Thank u!

how much songs would you reckon your missus have in her collection?

to me, if you have a lot of songs (numbering over 2 digits in the gigabyte dimension), an iPod classic may be the only way to go because of its space availability.

I don't think I will have like 10G songs, may be 2,3 GB, I guess.

girls would prefer the ipod touch though imo it sucks for sound. batt life is also an issue when using apps and listening to music

How much music does she have? Would she use the ipod touch's wifi for surfing? Oh, that's nice of you to get her an ipod.

Consider the nano, since it's smaller and about the same capacity as you need. Comes in nice funky colours that your GF might like. No point, getting the touch, if she's not going to use the features, also the classic is quite heavy, so generally girls may not like it. No space in the handbag. Haha.

GMAN

If your gf is the very very practical sort, iPod classic. Massive storage capacity, value for money.

The iPod Touch is a lot cooler looking with a lot of snazzy features that I wouldn't care for.

(Hint: Get the Touch ;) )

u need to see your gf's main objective using it..

why dont consider an iPhone? since only a add-on from itouch is phone. ;)

if have alot of songs, then classic able to serve the storage demand at a entry level price of 398 (120GB) while itouch 388 (8GB). while iphone with a plan maybe a price of 388 too which need to check with ST.. correct me if i'm wrong :)

Thanks for all good advices. ya, I thik my gf won't need 120GB, and it seems that ipod touch has a bigger screen and I can use it to view my pics. :)

I guess I get more questions:

1, regarding the sound quality, is the ipod classic better than ipod touch?
2, how about the battery? which one is better?
3, Is there anything like 40G ipod classic?

She never interested in Ipod touch as she is not a gadget person. simple system work for her.

Ended up got a ipod Nano 8GB.

i owned a classic 80gb. battery life is good..

Ipod touch battery life is crap(depends how u use)....It drains like hell.I gotta charge everyday until im sick of charging.(Now left 10%,lying in my room).Oh ya and it really depends what you are doing with ur itouch. For me,i like to surf the net, facebook, taptap, some games with it so generally i gotta charge it everyday. If purly listening songs,it would last you for say 3days?But whats the use of getting a itouch without using it's functions? Its like getting a DSLR and putting it on P mode LOL...........

1)40GB is old model. Will have to get 2nd hand. Should consider if your friend is okay with that.

2) Ipod Touch, Classic and Nano all have similar below-par sound unless listened to through the line-out with an amplifier. I assume that she'll not want to use one. The sound factor is actually negligible here as most(not all) girls are not very particular about sound quality.

3) So, just focus on the aesthetics. Classic and Touch are rather big compared to Nano, but it won't matter if she's going to put it in her bag. I'd recommend the 16GB Nano or Touch. You may think that she has only a small collection of tracks, but I've found that extra storage space will help when she expands that collection. For a bit more, why not? My own 8GB Cowon S9 is already fast running out of space. I notice that girls really like the apps of the Touch. Get the Nano if you feel that she doesn't need the fancy gimmickry. I wouldn't get the classic unless you really need the space as...

-It's a HDD player, will lag sometimes when changing tracks
-May skip when it encounters force
-Battery dies out faster as compared to flash players
-Not something you'll want to put into a tight-fit jeans pocket.

Agreed.I myself am not a audiophiller so i dont really care bout the sound quality,as long as i can hear the lyrics.Yes many girls are attracted to the apps on ipod.Everytime, there my girl friends would borrow my ipod touch and play games like cooking mama, lemonade tycoon, taptap:)thumbsup:)and loads more. And do get a 16 gb version. My 8gb version, put in around 15 shows, takes up 3/4 already

You may be surprised at how getting the iPoh Touch may change the way you use the device.
The Touch gets you access to the iTunes Apps store, which has over 30,000 ways of wasting time..
My vote is for the Touch, since its benefits (apps, larger screen) seem to outweigh the benefits of the Classic (storage, battery life)

get the nano man. a pink one perhaps.

I'm kinda sick of iPods. lol. Now using a SE W902 walkman with stereo BT headset with my own earphones that I will switch according to moods.

If her collection isn't too big, the itouch or Nano is best. Personally, I will prefer the Nano as it can fit into my pocket easily. Its small and light, so will prob fit better in her handbag.

if going for good quality sound. i would recommend the creative zen x-fi.. or something like that. wa when plugged in with my bose headphones.. the sound is incredible.. very different from my ipod touch.

and ipod touch is kinda pricey..
