Hi, I gt a sony a200 and just bought a 2nd hand 70-210 F4 beercan, gonna try this lens this week end at the Miss Singapore World Semi Finals 2009. Possible to just shoot tele without flash at F4 and ISO 400 or flash is a must? I dun have ext flash so tryin avoid using built in flash. :sweat:

flash or no flash, and whatever the amount of light, plz go much higher than ISO 400 with an F4 indoor. it would of course be ideal to use ur flash gun to increase shutter speed (freeze action) ...

If can, use flash, it really helps in giving you a faster shutter speed and thus allowing you to freeze actions. I'll assume you would want clear (actions frozen) pictures more then blur pictures of movements? And do remember your WB, these indoor lighting can be a pain sometimes but if you shoot in RAW, it helps during post processing.
Recently shot at an indoor event, was using my Canon 24-105 f/4, at least ISO 800 or up, f/4, and to 'comfortably' freeze actions, i had to watch for at least shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/80. (but i'm using a ext flash, 430EXII too).

thanks for all the advice given, intend to use the built in flash w ISO 800 since no time to get a 2nd hand ext flash. Appreciated all the replies
yes if u really can't freeze the action, then use the flash. im sure u would already be aware of the disadvantages of a built-in flash (harshness etc.) ... so if possible before u use the flash, do assess the lighting of the situation first. see how's the lighting with the f/4, and then up your ISO to the highest w/out obvious noise, and see if u can still freeze action without the use of your built-in flash. my guess is that it'll be tricky unless u have really strong lights there.
