there is. i can only think of two kinds of photography for such panning

firstly is car photography, the camera is mounted to the car, and the car moves.
essentially it's moving at the same speed as the car so since it's moving, it's considered panning bah

the other type is astro photography. where 30 seconds seems to be very slow
especially if want to capture stars

but hey, it's all about the type of image you want to achieve

perhaps shooting F1 going around a bend, that would be useful

if you're talking about snail, maybe
for ants, you have to be shooting close up, so close, they'd probably run around you in less than 10
then again, they are bloody random runners so have fun shooting them at long shutter
