55-200 or 18-200?

buying which lenses range is better?

i want to buy 55-200 for cheaper price
but maybe it is messy when changing the lens with 18-55
considering 18-200 for further use~

18-55 + 55-200 combo vs 18-200 combo

IQ is almost the same .
price about 500 dollars diff (consider BNS)
18-55+55-200 = 150+250
18-200 = 800-900

weight. 18-55 +55-200 > 18-200
however when u dont need the 55-200. 18-55 is solid enough for me.
i like to zoom things and find shots disappear by the time i want to shoot my stuff...hence i got 18-270 instead or in ur case a 18-200 - im just a bloody lazy bump.

if i really need high IQ stuff, i bring out my prime for portrait and my wide for landscape. Most of the time (85%) i shoot with my 18-270 and do correction later if needed

Changing lens is messy? DSLR is about changing lenses, get the right one for the intended purpose. Read the lens reviews and you'll see the differences in quality.

I would say it does get abit troublesome in swapping lens if u r right in the middle of a heavily packed event where there's shoving and squeezing of the excited crowd.
In this case, a one-for-all lens is convenient. May accidentally drop ur lens if someone bumps hard onto u while u changing lens.

Every lens has its purpose.

I'm also using D60 (> 1yr). Most of the time, my Sigma 18-200mm (incl. flash) will do the job just fine.
If u have advance notice of the event u r gg for, then maybe some other lens will be more suitable.
I have a 70-300mm lens used for specific purposes though.
Just some newbie's comments, do correct me if i'm wrong.

I feel when it comes to events, whether you've check out the location or not,
it's almost recommended to bring 2 body with one standard/wide and the other
maybe a telephoto. But of course if budget come into place I would personally
choose my 17-55mm and put my 70-200 by my side and will only change when
REALLY ness.

I got the Canon 18-200mm and never look back.... It is true that dslr is all about changing to a suitable lens but for all general shooting the said lens is more than sufficient. I would say that it cover 80% of my needs.

To me the IQ of the Canon 18-55mm + 55-250mm is similar to the Canon 18-200mm , what make me choose my 18-200mm instead of the dual kits lens is as follows:

• Better built quality(subjective)
• Shorter min focus distance in telephoto range compared to the 55-250mm
• Non-rotating front element (good for CPL & GND)
• "Rotation" Speed (it is faster to turn your zoom ring then to switch the body/lens)
• Less haste (don't need to carry extra lens or body during event shooting)
• Only need to purchase 1 set of hood & lens (UV, CPL, etc)

If I had the choice and the budget, I'd go for 18-200 for sure. A really good general purpose lens, as you said, without the mess of changing lens. The quality; anybody who says they can tell the difference on a 8R print is a liar. 18-200 is more expensive cuz they have to pack all that glass into one package, plus VR.

Erm... he has its opinion but not everyone will agree always. Read his opinion about tripods ("who needs it, we have high ISO and VR"), it gives a good laugh to many. I'd be careful calling people liars, some people have the ability to tell the difference, believe it or not.

the nikon 18-200's image quality is about the same as the 18-55 and 55-200

just that nikon chooses to price the 18-200 at $9XX brand new because it's convenient

ppl call it the only lens they'll ever need so they use this and "knock" a fortune out of you

so if you're on a budget the 18-55 and 55-200 will do just fine

i haven't tried the nikkor 18-200mm vr lens personally, but i have several pics taken with nikkor 55-200mm... you can browse my post, birds, birds, birds!!! there i posted shots using nikkor 55-200mm vr and sigma 70-300mm APO DG... am not a pro in taking shots, just trying to help you decide, so try browsing, just for your pic quality comparison. am using a nikon D60.
