Shinto Shrine Recce ( mcritchie )

Hi everyone, new to clubsnap, hear some of my photographer friends in the paranormal scene are interested in taking shots of the shinto shrine so here's an excellent opportunity.

on 30th may, me and a group of friends would be doing a day recce to the mcritchie shinto shrine. the recce will not give you much time to take much photos, but a subsequent camp ( yes, overnight ) will allow you to take photos. we are meeting at mcritchie carpark at 0930 hours, meeting venue still tentative. so far, got 5 pax.

the camp would start in the morning, and then we should reach the required place and set camp by mid-day, leaving a few hours for you guys to capture the magnificent ruins of the WW II left behind by the japs, though it is partially in ruins, there are interesting structures to document. we would then stay there overnight, and leave early the next morning after you guys finished and packed up

Most likely it will be done in two phases, on two dates.

30th May - recce to find the path there

subsequent wkend - camping there overnight.

you can join the first trip as its not overnight.

I'll update in mid-may again, if the 30th may trip is a recce or an actual camp, as I am quite confident to nail the location down in just one trip.

the plc is very very ulu ; easy to get lost. thats why we need to rush in, rush out before sunset.

lol.. from there u're near to a SAF campsite (so beware of sentry point guards in the middle of nowhere).. and from there.. u can go to quite a lot of places.. =]

I think you need to wade across a portion of the reservoir to get there as well...so prepare to get wet....

Hi people,

someone has showed me the trail to that shinto shrine before. I have never crossed it because you need to wade through the RESERVOIR. The water can reach up to chest level. Estimated 1.25 meter at least. There is also a certain amt of danger involved.

If you guys are gg over, do waterproof all things and bring extra clothing.

I dont mind going with you guys on the first day.But the second one if you guys are staying over night i've gotta ask my parents .So book my name for the first day

remember to bring masking tape and necessary gears JUST IN CASE the markings aren't enough to show the way. i nearly got myself lost when i bash thru the forest. the moment you're disorientated inside, ho sey liao...

btw that time me and one other friend only went in bare handed with slipper only. that was when i swear i'll get myself well equipped the next time...

bro you have to bash thru the forest and enter the shrine by the rear. there is no way you can enter thru the front cos it's the reservoir... there used to have a bridge but the japs blew it up after the occupation...

Some years ago, Nparks did briefly consider re-building a bridge to link to the shinto shrine, but dropped the idea because of concerns over japanese ww2 sentiments (perhaps some tenuous subliminal link to the yasukuni shrine?)

Do also be careful when wading across the reservoir. Keep a lookout for crocs.

If you do get lost, give the Nparks rangers a buzz and they will rescue you.

this sounds interesting... Bashing through forest is not easy need a parang just in case of any obstructions, long sleeve & thick glove in case of thorn branches, a cap will be nice and insect repellent. Compass will have to use a better one and do consider of some interference to the readings I believe the organiser do have a few well versed guys on topo skills so good luck !! Remember to post some interesting findings over there
