Hi guys,

this is my first time taking Silhouette, and just so coincidence that my fren is taking a foto of his GF at labrador.. so I take along lor.. niway I was trying to get a clean and nice Silhouette of her.. but this is the best that I could get.. i think it still has too much distraction at the back (those barracks, ships, etc).. what do you guys think?

The place is really gorgeous.
nice pose.

i only have one thing that may not really seem a big issue to others
i think that the silouhette should stand out more. right now it looks like it is blending with the bg.
maybe you could have shifted yourself so that the the right side of the model is not blended in with the dark bg.
just my 2 cents.

well,

you took this at eye level or higher.....

my question to you is,

did you try a low angle, since it is a silhouette, distortion and perspective problems are not really going to matter? :)

you are right, the photo is way too cluttered, there is a mass of black, that is still fine if the silhouette is DISTINCT, but it is not, the cranes and the clouds she is against are competing badly for attention.

go lower next time, and shoot upwards, see what you get. :) every angle should be explored, before you can say you did your best.

Hi TS,

I think I saw you there that day. The model was in Purple I think.

No tripod, shooting into that background... Did not help... You pointed out some some of the 'concerns' that you have. So.. next time... avoid them.

Maybe I throw you a question... under such contrasty lighting conditions, how would you shoot to make sure that we can see the girls face and retain the current background lighting...

I wonder if I am the guy 'under her armpit'....

Keep shooting.

Cheers.

hahahha nice positioning..

anyway, great concept. u did caught the siliuote part right...but need to work on composition, i personally feel that the subject is not distinct enough -> just way too dark at the bottom

B'coz the subject is somebody's GF, so cannot,or impolite to crouch dn and shoot to avoid misunderstanding. But if it was a paid model, anyhow shoot also can.

that is ridiculous

if you ask before doing so, what's wrong with crouching?

it isn't as if you're standing right in front of her anyways

I also feel that the shape of the Silhouette is rather odd, esp at the head portion. I'm not sure if that's hair, but it looks like some sort of growth protruding from the right side of her head. I feel that in a Silhouette especially, attention needs to be paid to the border of the subject; the entire border.

That might sound so, anyway most powerful shot of silhouette are usually done on a LOW horizon, and a clear/clean/unobstructed backgrd. The backgrd are usually stunning/amazing sunset/rise etc. Sometime the top can also includes some pitch black silhouette of hanging leaves or something of interest, like an ornamental window frame/ arches etc.

The long stretch of railing at Labrador park...very difficult to produce a successful/flawless silhouettes picture.

Easiest way should be flash ba, anyway title is silhouette :D

I like how you position the sun together with the model, but I have to say that yes, it is too cluttered. Perhaps you can take such a shot at a location closer to the coastline, so that you can reduce the number of distracting elements (walking people, like that man under armpit thing)?

Using the silhouette created under street lamp can also give a different mood...mystery, eerie, suspense etc.

i think the silhouette is too cluttered and she is blend in with the surrounding silhouettes but nice pose.. Got potential.
if you shift more to the right and low angle it shld be better. Cheers!

I cant seem to figure out what the subject is doing... :D
