Is lens with fixed aperture better?

I'm looking for lens upgrade. After surfing the Nikon Website, I realised that the lens with fix aperture is more costly. is it better? will it affect night shoots?

erm....a fixed aperture lens is definitely better. The question is, do you really need a fixed fast aperture badly enough to justify the price?

and as for night shoots, if your doing stuff like portraiture it will (but a fast lens is good for portraiture during the day anyway). If your doing landscape photography at night (where you'll probably be using a tripod and long exposure anyway) a fast, fixed aperture lens is pretty much redundant :think:

Just look at the price tag you will notice the different for lens with zoom and fix aperture.

Another benefit of constant aperture is that zooming does not affect exposure, which is good when shooting in series.

What body are you using? If you are using FF, it is definitely a must have lens :thumbsup:

i don't think so it's 2.8 fixed aperture at 2.8, is not much low light can be help your photo become without blur.
when u taken photo at night time still need apply flash light.

if aperture 1.8 or 1.4 maybe yes without flash light still can taken but also depend indoor or outdoor.
some time in indoor shoots also blur. depend your lighting is more bright or not.

f2.8 is when u zoom in and far distance still have 2.8 for little bokeh background.

Only fixed aperture lenses I know of are mirror lenses. Hehe.

dctk78 constant aperture zooms are generally the better made and more expensive professional glasses. Do go to the Nikon show room ( or even the other shops ) and try out to see if it is wat u need.

Depends. Some are great. Some suck. Best to read reviews or test them on your own.
