how to take away Exif data from pictures?

Prerequisite: any image editor like Photoshop, Gimp, Paint etc.
Mark (entire image or part of it) - Copy - New file - Paste. (Check the menus for the exact items, may vary between editors.)
When you create a new file in Photoshop then the suggested image size will have already the dimensions of the copied image (now sitting in clipboard). Gimp behaves in the same way.

Open with Microsoft Paint (Start->Accessories->Paint).

Select All ( Edit -> Select All )
Copy ( Edit -> Copy )
Open a new File ( File -> New )
Paste ( Edit -> Paste )
SaveAs new filename ( File -> Saveas )

sorry to OT, but may i know what's the reason for people doing this? so that people can't 'steal' the settings or privacy purposes?

Just follow Isisaxon's google search and use a simple command line tool to strip the EXIF header off. No need for the full blown Photoshop treatment.

As for why : some people don't want to share their settings. It reduces the file size slightly. It strips information like camera serial number, camera model, name, geotags (location info).
