I've a Canon 1000D and a Sony HDV Camcorder [I forgot which model but it came out not too long ago but it's not in the professional range]

I want to ask you guys if it's wise to 'upgrade' from a consumer lvl HDV camcorder to a professional one, like the XL-A1 Camcorder?
