hi guys..

just bought a D90..now wondering what type of lenses i can get for it in addition to the kit lens (18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ED).

I am looking for a lens with a longer focal length range than the kit lens (maybe 70-300mm). Is it possible that a Zoom-Nikkor lens would fit the D90 right off the shelf? Or would it even fit?

Also..can anyone explain to me what it means when a lens is 'fast'?

Thanks in advance..

bought my nikon 70-300 F4.5-5.6 VR lens for my D90 at $840 last week

hahaz..your answer basically means: 'yes, it fits without any problem right off the shelf'?

As long as it's the Nikon F-mount, it'd fit your Nikon D90.

Some suggestions (from Nikon) include:

1. Nikon AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6G
2. Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED
3. Nikon AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6D ED
4. Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED
5. Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED
6. Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED

I tried to arrange it according to price. May be wrong though.

Basically, lens with F 1.4 , 1.8 , 2.8 ranges are consider as 'fast' lens .. due to their bigger apperture :)

If u going for the 70-300 not advisable to get the G version.... if budget not a problem then get the 70-200 or 80-200mm :D maybe u could share what u wanna shoot then maybe the other sifus here can advise what to get??

oh yes..i forgot about that detail..

i am trying to get a suitable lens to shoot aircraft flying during airshows such that they dont appear as a tiny dot (but nicely framed) even at max. zoom...if thats the most suitable way i can put it..haha..

eh..why the 50mm?? Its a fixed focal length lens right? What does it do?

so..the lens is 'fast' cuz aperture is big and so faster shutter speeds can be used?

So small aperture lenses are 'slow'?

the 18-105 VR will most likely be your most used lens. Its that convenient.

for longer range, rent when needed rather then buy one if you do not use frequently.

Well... In a sense, yes... Although people rarely refer to them as slow lenses... It's just not-a-fast-lens. Haha!

Not forgetting bumping up high ISO for faster shutter speed as an option.

you might want something longer, but that will not come cheap.

anyways, other than what blur shadow has suggested, you can also consider third party lenses, for 70-300, the tamron 70-300 and sigma 70-300 are very decent offerings factoring in the cheap price. and they work well from 70-200, just a bit soft from 200-300.

chengjoo,

OT awhile, is your workplace @ eunos? cos i think i know u.. lol.

Depends on ur budget. Else the AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 is a pretty good lens to complement with a longer reach.

Hi JT-Fied,

I also owned a D90 and also looking to get a zoom lens. Why not advisable to get the G version ? So get which version ?

Thanks.
