Find a spare back cap for your lens. Cut out the centre portion, and Mcquyver a step up/ step down ring into it. My quick measurement of the internal diameter of the Canon cap showes 52mm. So you could potentially McQuyver a 52-58mm step up ring to it. then u can mount any filter to it. I will give it a quick wirl and see what i can come up with.

Front element is ok but the exposed back element....cannot put filter
Anyway, just be careful as the distance to the subject is very near ;)

It's a S$100 lens (canon 50 1.8), and my copy is now probably worth only like S$50 or something after the beating and banging and dropping it's gone through. So yeah I'm not that worried.

I'll scout around in retail to find a 58-52 coupler. No point "MacGyver"ing something that cheap.

And I won't pay S$20 for something that probably costs S$5 to make lol.

Alright. 15 minutes of "quick wirl"
removed back of a spare cap.
even out some of to protrusions.
couldn't find my 52-58. so pop in a 52-77 for the time being.
viola.

You can pop in a 52mm thread snugly. To be more secure, some sort of glue with be ideal. You can use any 52mm - XXmm step up rings to your liking.

now you can pop on filter of any size and protect the back element of your reversed lens

wasn't referring to the coupler. rather in making a filter attachment for the back element of the "reversed" lens

Ah okay. Sorry for the assumption.

no worries. i am exploring using "reversed" lens as well, hence the interest. from your work, looks rather promising.

I've gaffered taped my 50mm f1.8 to my 100 macro lens and got this:

My Seiko watch.

I dont think i can take an image of anything that moves with my setup, maybe have to practice more and also get a proper connector for the lenses.

anyone tried this tago coupling ring alr?

hah, just ordered it a few hours ago :bsmilie:

will post some pictures once it's delivered? :)

P.S- I have tried duct-taping it to my 105mm macro lens though. Together with a 25mm extension tube it gives me a maximum focusing distance of around 1.5cm ;)

wow i really like the eye pic... awesome
im a bit trembling seeing all those insects so close...
i notice most of u are using canon, this method is going to work on nikon as well right?
what we need are zoom lens and macro lens (reversed) correct??

here's a video i found about macro reverse:

zx,
U should try the reverse 50mm thingy wif your 70-200L, more power.
Darn sharp pics btw

I tried.. 70-200 at 200mm and 50mm, and there's heavy vignetting because maybe the 50mm's rear element is too small. I tried with my 85mm (as in, 70-200 + 85mm) and it works with slightly more magnification. The difference in size and weight makes me want to continue using the 85+50 combo instead.
