Just appeared after a few hundred shots. Never seen this happen to me in other cameras. Is CMOs or CCD sensor more prone to this?

I can probably clone this out from all the photos which sounds like a pita but does the warranty covers dead pixels?

where is it?

Hot pixels normally appear after long exposure, long live view or video shot, caused by the sensor heating up. They will disappear after the sensor cools down. Try taking a few shots after letting the camera idle for a while (maybe half an hour or more). If the pixel is still there then it is a dead pixel.

i see white dots (many) prominently on darker background when i blow up the pic 100%.

is this dust or pixel issue?

The white dots are dusts on the lens barrel.

sorry for OT, but the dots are in the same position even after i changed lens. so could be dust on the low pass filter. have not tried using a swab to clean it yet.

but on day shots, i do not see the white dots. strange....

What does zoomzoomzoom's shot got to do with your lens?

that's why i apologised for OTing. :)

(and i brought out my white-dot issue thinking it could be the same problem)

but, sorry again.

I thought you were referring to his shot. If you have white dots on your pics, we won't be able to comment unless you post up a 100% crop. By saying "white dots are dusts on the lens barrel" I was referring to the pic in the 1st post.

dust on sensor and lens usually dont show up in your picture if u dont stop down alot on your f stop. one way to check for dust on your lens or sensor is to set your camera to f22 and take a long exposure shot or a white wall or a uniform color wall, while the shutter is open shake your camera or move is about in circle. inspect your picture for dark dots or spots, if dont have mean your sensor or lens is clean, if got mean either one is dirty, change lens to compare if its lens or sensor that is dirty then.

TS - the red dot does looks like a hot pix, to confirm, go shot at something else which is black or dark color and see if the red dot appear, if so then you have a hot pix issue liao

if under warranty, u can bring down to nsc and ask them to try and map away that pix

shucks just had a look with my recent pictures with dark backgrounds. they all have that red dot at the exact same spot. i'll just have to go to nsc to see if they can help, too bad that will have to wait for a couple of weeks as i'm travelling.

Hi, I m new here. First time posting.

Indeed it is Hot Pixel. I had this phenomena on my D90 barely 2 months into use. Sent to nsc and they remapped it. Was told that heat mainly the cause of it, esp on this type of sensors.

Cheers

one way to check for hot pix is to put your cam to MF and cap the lens and set the iso to the lowest and snap off a shot at 30sec, sensor is good if the picture is pure black. as u bump up the iso, the chances of hot pix showing up increase
