Mecablitz 30BCT4

Hi all, i've inherited a Metz 30BCT4 flash unit... intend to use it n my D90.
Is this advisable?

I've read countless stories abt ppl against it as it may damage the horseshoe interface.
But my question is, what kind of damage? If this is really the case, then isn't Nikon users losing out to not being able to use those higher end 3rd party flash units?

Also, there is a cable that sticks out from the flash unit. May i know what use is that for?

Pls advise.

Wire sticking out ... ? Canm it be detached? Is it a PC Sync Cord?

i found out that the following:

30BCT4 No 68V reported by Peter Cooke &
165V from Paul Nelson,
172V from Vic

Wow, this means that the Metz flash unit is so powerful?!
Think i better avoid using this...

I also have another flash unit:

Contax TLA30
TLA 30 Yes A trifling 2V, reported by Brad Grigor (watch out for those extra pins...)

This means that the flash unit emits 2V only?
(which i assume should be safe for D90s)

ohh.. nope.
Juz checked with my dad... it's some modification he did for the horseshoe contact point.
This flash was used on the manual bodies wayyyyy back then. :bsmilie:

You'll have to check what is the manufacturer rated safe voltage limit that can be used on a D90.
