Raynox250 or 500D canon close up lens

I would like to get those one of macro converter on to my 55-250mm IS lens. Any one can advice me on this set up? Appreciate if you can refer me the price and shop too. Last few days ago I went to MS color and they out of stock 500D lens.

Another doubt is can I shoot without taking off those 2 lens and can shoot like normal? Something like the birds and landscape?

The Canon 500D is just a +2 filter so no use on the 55-250 lens. The Raynox DCR250 which is a +8 diopter filter will be more useful.

Using the Raynox DCR250, your focusing distance will be ard 12cm and you will lose infinity focus as well as any focus other than at this distance. So u won't be able to shoot landscapes, birds etc with the Raynox on. Just take note that with the Raynox you probably won't be able to use it past 150mm tele range due to the thin DOF you will get.

Same thing applies for the 500D. The 500D being a +2 filter has a focusing distance of 50cm.

The Raynox DCR250 is sold at the mass sales forum by McGill House @ ard $120. Cheaper alternatives would be getting a close up lens (+4) or macro filter (+10) to use with your lens. Currently I have a Raynox DCR250 as well as a close up filter set (+1, +2, +4 and +10) for my 55-250 lens.

wonder how good are close up filter comparing to Raynox DCR250???
as know extension tube might make u lose a few stops...
personally only tried Raynox DC250.

Quality is acceptable compared to the Raynox.

Close up filters and the Raynox which is also a close up filter do not cause your lens to lose any light...

Sorry to dig up this old post. Cos I am searching on close up filter 500D.
Anyway, after reading this thread, was a bit confuse.

I own a 55-250mm.
Its a EFs, hence cannot use the 2x extension.

I would like to ask, is there anyway I can use this 55-250mm to shoot birds?
Meaning, is there any mean of extending it to...eg 400mm, 500mm?
Does attaching a close up filter helps? Or is my concept already wrong?

Close up filter is only for macro. Its doesn't help u out for reach more farther away. Worse things is if u put on those close up filters put on ur lens u lens become like blind except from few inches away focusing distance. But good for only macro stuff not for birds. For birds at least 500mm must in real world.
