So is this something that you're developing completely independently of Pentax?
Yes. The lenses, sensor, processor, display - everything comes from Samsung.

So there won't be a Pentax version?
At some point maybe we'll collaborate - but not only with Pentax. To fully develop this kind of product we'll need a lot of collaboration with other industries in general terms, so there are lots of partners we have, but the majority comes from Samsung, all coordinated by Samsung, all done by Samsung.

Oh dear. This is bad news for Pentax/Hoya.

Hope that Pentax manages to survive!

Bad news???
Of course Pentax will survive. I can't say the same for the photographic division of Samsung. Aside from their PnS cameras, they haven't really sold that many DSLRs even if they were re-branded Pentaxes. The NX is just a bridge camera that's just a step up from a PnS. They still have some way to go if they want to move up and launch their own design of DSLRs and lenses.

Samsung still has a sizeable warchest and i am guessing they may be getting cross licenses with other brands for development. It`ll take some time but they will get to that level.

They also have an advantage on Pentax in terms of branding...just me but i think people are more familiar with the Samsung brand.

Pentax survived even before Samsung joined the game, why you'd think Pentax won't survive just because Samsung announced a new product which Pentax isn't really involved? I just don't get it.

On the contrary, IMO, the main reason Samsung DSLRs sell is because people know that when they buy it, they actually (more or less) get a Pentax for slightly cheaper.

Would you invest a few thousand dollars in buying bodies + lenses from a company that has no history of SLRs and lens systems? I know I would be very cautious....

Because it would have been fantastic if the NX -was- another Samsung-rebranded Pentax.

In all likelihood, theres probably a NX to K adaptor not unlike the m4/3 to 4/3 panasonic adaptor. Makes sense as there is a line of Samsung branded K lens. If this thing has the G1's EVF and manual assist, IS in body and can allow aperture control, I probably will gladly sell all my larger bodies and downsize. I dun really need AF that much.........

I am watching out for the Samsung NX ;)

can smell some sourgrape in here:bsmilie:
