For the sake of your future, your loved ones, your friends and the Mother Earth, do something on the March 28, 2009. For those who want to save $$$, is also a good time and motivation lah. ;)

This year, the world's first global election is taking place, an election between earth and global warming. It's not about what country you are from, but what planet you are from. Your light switch is your vote. We need one billion votes for earth, because our planet is worth saving. Vote Earth by simply switching off your lights for one hour and join the world for Earth Hour. Saturday march 28th, 8:30-9:30pm.

I do it almost everyday. Stay OT in office so dont have to use electricity from home. LOL :D

I think people should conserve energy everyday rather than only doing it on 28 March.. A lot of people are doing it on 28 to appear cool then after that forget about it.

i am already reducing my electricity usage on a daily basis, it goes a longer way than a once a year gesture.

people who are renovating homes can consider planning lighting needs more judiciously to trim bills. look at the ??lumen/watt ratings. check current home to see if certain rooms can do with a reduction in lumens. choose light fittings that expose the bulbs to maximise efficiency. or use nightlights when using PC in evenings.

the other up-side to reducing electricity comsumption is a slight reduction in temperature. energy efficient bulb do produce heat, less power = less heat.

to conserve energy, drive less and take more public transportation.

check on home appliances that is too old and take up too much energy (ie old aircon, old fridge, old tv, instant boiler instead of 24hr hot water boiling pot).

halogen and incandescent can be substituted with energy saving bulbs. beware of transformers as some do consume alot of power as well.

use notebooks instead of power packed pc for the next upgrade. use fan instead of aircon. use sunlight during the day instead of drawing up all curtains and switch on the lights.

The earth hour is only a reminder. if we take a part to change our lifestyle and appliances, participating in earth hour becomes unimportant as we would have already done our part on a daily basis.

whatever we do got effect meh? :bsmilie:

well, we can only play a tiny role.

if you have seen what industrial waste is about, you will shake head.

in canada, i know one mill that process trees into wood. due to the inefficiency of the machines and production processes, 50% of the trees were dumped away as waste. so here we are trying to save a paper, but there they are costing them into as material cost.

for many other industries, there will be tremendous waste from machineries output and human errors. All of these contribute to global warming, too.

If every one do a little tiny save, on earth we have at least 5 billion people. How much we can save? Just do the math :)
But again try to do more than just earth hours on 28 Mar 2009, 8.30pm to 9.30pm :)

anyone know which part of town is going to be un-unsually dark that day for an hour?

i already switch off what ever is not in use

eg TV is totally switched off anf not in standby mode, even the main switch is switched off
i only leave the fridge, fish tank water filter and my dry cabi switched on

Switch off handphone, iPod, camera too? :bsmilie:

time to junk the 1500watt vacuum!!
