hi all i need some advise on this issue here,

my debit card has been charged with 3 unauthorized transaction on 10th march, amounting to ard 1.5k. i found out this transaction on the 11th of march nite when i check it thru online banking. The purchase were in euro or gbp. i did not lose my card, my card is with me.

i have already lodge a report to the police and also notified the bank, but the cso said that gt to wait for the merchant to settle the transaction within 10 days, now the tranaction is actually pending status, if they nv settle money will go bk to me immediately, if they settle it, i will need to file a dispute.

really need advice on this issue... many thanks

update: 1 transaction has been deducted from my account already

update: 2 of the 3 transactions are nt online transaction, the other 1 i still nt sure abt it.

wah!! you called the bank le yet they still allow the transaction to go through? den wad's the point of you calling them? :dunno:

maybe you go down to the branch with the police report and transaction details to talk to them? it may be faster than just calling them cos it shows you really mean business.

since all are unauthorise transaction, i think you shld get back your money. Follow up closely with the bank and remember to get the name of the person you spoke to.

precisely the point, i called my auntie who is working in the bank already. she say she will help me ask her colleagues regarding this.

make police report already, with the cso name in the report as well...fax the dispute letter with the police report already. now i totally gt no cash on hand...plus i nsf, those 1.5 is all my savings, and pay for this mth already credited to my acc jus nice on the 10 march...man im so stress abt this...

Let me share with you my experience.

More than 10 years ago, I also had an unauthorised charge on my debit card. The charge looked like a monthly subscription to a porn site.

Calling up to DBS, they told me that they needed 48 days to check things out.

I told them that this is not acceptable as at the end of the 48 days, the merchant will claim that I had consumed the 30 day subscription and hence refuse to refund. I then insisted that they get back to me within 7 days.

After firm and logical assertions, they got back to me within 7 days and reversed the charge.

Moral of the Story - be firm and do not give way as far as such unauthorised charges is concerned. Do take a great deal of caution if you feel you are being delayed, as every delay may potentially and irreversibly compromise your chances of a refund.

Hope this is helpful, and feel free to ask if you require more comments.

Cheers!

Second Suggestion - when using a debit card account (as opposed to a credit card account where you can simply refuse to pay the disputed charges), do separate your main savings from the debit card. When I was in the same position like you (ie non working personnel), I also had two bank accounts. One POSB savings where all my savings is in there, and a DBS debit card account, where I only maintain around S$100.

In this way, your exposure to unauthorised transactions is limited to only S$100. Transfers between accounts is easy due to Internet Banking. That is the key difference when using a debit card - it is hard to get money back, it is easy to refuse to pay for unauthorised transactions.

hey bro,

can emphatie with you.. me also serving the nation. hard to survive with the allowance. :bsmilie: hope you get ur $$ back asap.

Hmm... Sounds like u have got some spyware on your computer for that online transaction to go thru....

And it oso seems like u have got ur card being physically duplicated by some syndicate....

Since u have already cancelled your card, the physical duplication is no longer an issue(provided u get those three charges waived). For safety reasons, please go do a reformat of your computer and install firewalls and antivirus, antimalware and whatsoeva. If reformat not possible, then at least do a scan with norton or smth to that extend...

And set ur pop-up blocker to the highest security settings... Alot of these spy/mal/ad wares comes in from avenues like these. For mine, its set so securely until i click on any links even in CS, it requires my permission to carry on.

Also, do u carry out online transactions using public PCs or other computers except your own? If you do, please don't do it again. Try to perform all online transactions for only one SECURED computer(preferbly your own personal one). So that in cases like this, it helps you narrow down as to where your debit card info may have been leaked from. Same goes for credit cards.

One last point, file a report with MAS too. With MAS following up, the banks will likely handle the problem with more discretion....
Hope this helps.
