advise to clear darkening clouds

Hi there to all forumers! Im new here, guess a newbie

Its been a couple of months (actually since last year) since I am reading and observing this site of yours.

And only had decided recently to pursue this hobby. The main reason it was delayed because of budget, Im a budget conscious guy, but only found out last month that I will start this hobby because of the passion and the love for what you do.

Here is the thing, I havent owned a dslr yet only a point and shoot, and upon my transition to dslr Im not sure what is to buy (both body and other accessories, although my past lurking in this site gives me an idea)

BUDGET: My budget would be around 1K, but willing to extend till 2k, only if really need and if advise properly

THINGS LIKE TO SHOOT: Right now i would say landscapes, and something I can use with during Holiday Trips. Hopefully it this will be a hobby and will have the passion to shoot more.

CAMERAS BEING CONSIDER:
1. Nikon D90
2. Canon 40D
3. Pentax K20
4. Used Nikon D80 then use some remaining money to the lens
*Please dont advise cams more than 2k like the Nikon d300 and Canon50D
* For some reason Im not sure If i will include a Sony system, pls advise


** As for friends/colleges, I guess I really dont have yet so chances of having the same system like them is not that big or advantage. (in case you ask)

** With the above choices Im hoping that i can have the learning curve of photography soon/easy. I am aware that the choices above are not entry level.

** Also Im also considering this, since I am new, why not start my Nikon d40, but Im not sure if im comfortable with manual focusing.


Hope you guys, the expert in this field can give a friendly advise to someone who is lost and just want to join our field

All are competent models/ After reading up on the various cameras and models, work within your budget and go down the shops to try them out. Maybe one might just mould nicely into ur hands.

Sony has an impressive line up as well.

There are lots of similar threads on new cameras to start with for reference on this forum too. Try do search and have fun!

the D40/60 does not mean you need to manual focus
it only means that you have to use AF-S lenses if you want to Auto focus
if you buy a lens without AF-S then you would have to manual focus, this is because the D40/60 does not have the screw drive that non AF-S lenses use to auto focus

i believe that it is the same with canon cameras

I already do the research and everything, maybe just waiting for some for push.

In your personal opinion, what would you recommend given the guidelines I had just give. I would not bother If one would be bias to a certain model/brand. What would you recommend to me.

You can also PM me, so not to be bias to other forumers using different model/brand or have different opinions.

Hope I would hear some more opinions and advise

i'd say go with the used D80 and spend the money on a lens or flash

Agree with ortega on this. With the spare cash, you can invest on a 2nd hand UWA for landscape, a 2nd hand kit lens and a tripod.
