Good day~
First post. =P
Anyway, just offer my opinions on the SX10IS. I just sold mine a few days ago to a colleague amazed by it's capabilities for the keen learner. I'm upgrading to a DSLR in a few days, so I sold it to him on the spot after he used it to support the event we were at.
If you did your homework you'd learn that it has 20x optical zoom. At full 20x the shake was pretty obvious, but the IS would always compensate for it and still allow me to turn out a decent image with it. Pretty sharp, and colour's pretty good. For a pinch you could also fiddle with the digital zoom to push into the 80x region. Grainy at 80x , but atleast i could make out what I was taking.
a little heavy compared to usual prosumers or PnS cams, but it's a fun camera to have despite the weight ( i got used to it really fast, so i dont think it's an issue). the flip screen also comes in very handy for the camwhore owner. =P
I brought the cam on my last holiday to china, and it really proved it's worth for the price i paid (bought it on 020109 for 700$ at 3:16). Video taking capability allowed me to keep videos of fireworks and tons of pics, though if you'd see yourself taking vids alot, get the SX1 instead, but it'll cost more, of course. Recently heard that SX1 now comes with a software patch to allow Raw format on the cmos sensor for SX1. That's a brilliant update IMO.
hope i helped some.
