recommended 18-200 lens

Hi bros...

Can anyone recommend me of which 18-200, 18-250 lens to get base on a budget of $600 - $800. Basically for walkabout. Sigma, Tamron... anything.. just recommend me.

Nikon 18-200mm for around 800+ used, VRII.
Or you can just get 3rd party lenses which are significantly cheaper.

But with the 3rd pary lens you would loose the F5.6 at 200mm.... :think:

True. But @ f5.6 and f6.3 i wouldn't worry about the difference.

I'd recommend nikon's 18-200mm...
Way better than 3rd party eventhough its quality is soso..
Its still better than thrid party..
I have it and love it.

2nd hand is around 800++..
Try posting.. some1 might sell it even at 750 like how i got it last december..

Seriously.... DUN bother.... the image quality is pretty low and at the aperture it's offering, might as well go for a decent f2.8 lens for a intermediate to close range.

of course u cant compare it to L lens. but i would say there are quite gd 18-200mm lens out there.
nikon is one. tamron 18-270 is another 1. canon 18-200 is gd too.

Personal preference... I still don't quite like the quality.

Why don't up your budget alittle?
You can get a new Tamron 18-270 for around $900+.

I don't think the 17-55 is just a few hundreds bucks more.

Do you need all that range? I'd urge you to reconsider. Once you discover its shortcomings as a superzoom, you'll feel the need for a constant large aperture lens. For your budget, the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is easily within range. On a 1000D body, this range is the most commonly found walkabout range, for wide angle work at 17mm, and some portraiture or closeups at 50mm.

I personally uses the Canon EFS 18-200mm lens and find it handy.

The IQ of the lens when compared with L lens or standard telephoto lens is not that bad really. I find it pretty decent IMO and basically only needs some slight sharpening for the pictures. An all rounder lens for walkabout shooting, saving the time and effort for changing lens.

However, if TS wants to do serious Macro shots, please do consider the Macro lens instead.
