Hi all,

And i only saw one dragonfly, and an army of ants..
Not forgetting greens and trunks..
THATS ALL!

I did not come across any other insects, etc...
no spiders.. no webs.. no nothing!
:(

I was wandering where can i find all the beautiful insects and spiders..
Fyi, i was along the trail only..

Please share... thank you..!

really need to take your time to slowly walk n look slowly at all the lalangs grass area....

Hi bro,

What you mention remind me a long time ago. Can say around 4 or 5 years ago. I still remember carry a camera with a 28-135mm lens walk very fast from 1 end to another end of the garder.Sometime ever follow other photographers who don't even wanted to tell you how to shoots Macro/Close-up photos. Alway reture empty handed or blur pic or poor compost.

Everything change after I met my mentor Mr Low. He teach me how to look for my subjects, way of compost your pic, playing with shadow, lines, patters & DOF, controling of light by using ext flash and nature sunlight.

Nowaday everywhere in our house estate and garder I can find my subject to shot. Is only whether this pic is very common or competition shot.

In Macro/Close-up Photography, patient and claim is very important elements. Most of the time I can spend the whole morning shooting at 1 location and 1 subject and reture home with only good image out of all.

Ok I stop here, if not other will say I long air. Hope all above can cheers you up and shots some best Macro images and share with us here.

Cheers

Haa.. it needs a little getting used to ...

Do you catch fighting spiders when younger? That helps... else try going out with the more seasoned "hunters"...for a couple of times, it helps too... some people like SteveWhy amazes me still... his ability is almost divine.. haa..he almost have the 6th sense for the tiny crawlers... you can try join his outings.. sure it helps. :)

It is very common to go home empty handed. :)

Don't be dishearted and continue your passion.

Try to read up more on the insect you are go after for.

Take a deep breathe and move slowly. OBSERVE.

Thanks all for the tips.. =(
I shall go with ya'll to get more tips.. !!

One day.. one day..

I have another qn, is it enough to take all those beautiful insects with
an AFS 60mm nikkor? or tamron 90mm ?
I'd like to take the eyes of those flies we see at home...
Saw some people took those shots.. damn superb la with the red eyes and everything..
Or must i need a longer FL lens ?

Longer is better for insects....

90mm at least...

I saw people using the raynox dcr250 and get to shoot dragonflies up close..
till can see the details of the eyes sommore..
HOW in the world did they get to be that close?? Cause i know if use DCR250, confirm,
the focus distance is around a few CMs away...
HOW HOW HOW?!?!
How did you guys get soo close to insects and really2 have time to focus that fast without the insect running away... ?!?! =.=''

Not that difficult...;) U just need a lot of practice.

With the Raynox 250, focusing distance is ard 12cm. U need to set your lens to manual focusing, focusing distance to minimum, then move the lens close to the dragonfly until you get the eye in focus. Then snap the shot. Juz take note though, you need to use aperture of ard f16 and also use flash to take a good pic with the Raynox.

Dragonflies are easier to take because they do stay at one position for quite some time and even if they fly off, they usually will return to the same perch so it's just a matter of having patience. ;)
